For those that moved...

For those of you who've moved as part of the FSP or otherwise, what pushed you over the top and decided that "This is something that I want to be apart of?" And after the fact, how do you feel about the decision you've made?

Nothing pushed me.. as soon as I heard of it I said... YES.

I think it was a GREAT decision to move here.  Even if no one else moved.... I still LOVE it here!

Kat Kanning

Waco and other government atrocities.  Then when I heard about the FSP, I signed up right then.  I've never regretted moving - I love it here!

d_goddard

I moved from California. The Socialists in charge of that state made the decision too easy.

I'm sure it'd be a lot easier if I lived in one of the socialist states...but heck, I live in South Dakota. I'm fairly sure we have the lowest taxes per capita in the nation...and regulations from the state are few and far between.

d_goddard

Well Matthew, the decision to pull up stakes is not one to be taken lightly.

One question: in 20 years' time, do you think South Dakota will be:
a) More free, or
b) Less free
... than it is today?

If the answer is (b), do you think that hundreds of dedicated pro-liberty activists would possibly change the outcome?
If the answer to that latter question is yes... then get your ass up to New Hampshire.  :)

Puke

Deploying to Iraq.
No regrets.

Like Dreepa and Kat, I was sold as soon as I heard about the FSP. But when my husband agreed to sign up I was unstoppable.

I've lived less than 2 miles from the border of NH since I was a little child.  Ever since I could figure things out I've been figuring out that some things are legal and fine to do in NH, and yet when I'm at home don't try doing it.   Things like fireworks, my parents not buckling up, no sales tax.  Nowadays I see the differences as no income tax, less paid government officials, and a true land of freedom.  No group made me want to move here, I've been looking at it for years.  A friend told me about this site, and told me that on this forum especially, there are many people that will agree with my way of thinking.  We've got a small band of people, a group of about 10 who lived in the area for a long time.  One is already a member, and suggests we take a look for ourselves, because he seemed quite angry about some of the stuff he read on here. . . . which reminds me that even the most libertarian person I know can be jaded by the petty differences.  It also reminds me that I must remain independent in thought and vote rather than join up with any party, freedom loving or not.

But I've moved happily, set up my shop so to speak. . . and I'm loving the great town of Hampton Falls, NH, except for the residual beach traffic.

I decided as soon as I saw the free state project.  I had looked for a micro-nation, considered moving to Costa Rica (where 10% of the legislature is Libertarian), and thought about moving libertarians to a small state ... but thought that I would never convince enough Libertarians to make a difference to move with me.  Apparently, some are more persuasive than I.

After PorcFest, I am looking forward to my move more than ever, and it looks like I might be starting a programming job in Portsmouth NH in about a month.  I am dying to move!

I'm moving next week from San Francisco. Lots of things pushed me WAY over the top, so much so that being around other freedom-folk is the only option acceptable to me now. For me it was first learning how the money system works and what a scam that is, then learning about 9/11 and state-sponsored terrorism in general, and after that I was able to see the encroaching police state all around us, the real motive behind gun control, the cameras going up everywhere in California, CPS running wild, the vaccines, the whole entire thing. Many Free-staters aren't into the "conspiracy" thing, but for me learning how the world actually works is what put a fire under my ass, and made me fully realize that freedom is really the only thing that matters. Period. Regardless of whether or not people share my perspective about any of the other stuff, the fact that free staters and many NH residents in general want small/no goverment is plenty enough of a commonality for me.

I haven't actually moved yet but I made the decision to start planning the move very soon after attending Porcfest. I'd never been to NH and yet I signed the pledge a while back. It was Porcfest that convinced me there is no need to wait for 20k people to sign up. It's the best place to be for liberty lovers regardless. Besides that, it's just a great place to be period. I like the state and would likely consider moving there even without the FSP.

People on this forum probably agree on 90-95% of the issues: we ALL want less government, it's just a question of how much less, how fast, and in what specific areas.

Fact is, if you can be so pissed off with someone who agrees with you 90% of the time as to be unable to work with them (instead of simply "agreeing to disagree for the time being" on the other 10%), then you have no hope in hell of dealing with some of the abject Communists in the legislature.

Always remember: it's issue by issue. You're NEVER going to agree 100% with another person on every issue. Get used to working together on the things where we agree, and opposing each other respectfully on that last 10%.

I've got news for you: about 10% of the New Hampshire House of Representatives is libertarian. They happen to run as Republicans (and one as a Democrat), but if you ask them about any of the libertarian issues, they're on "our" side: gun rights, taxes, education, prohibition, you name it.

I knew the Free State Project was the right solution very quickly.  I only wish I had moved sooner.   :icon_pirat:
