Yeah well not many fast food places have fresh roasted lamb at their disposal.

Still they are excellent -- some of the best bread I've had.

Oh, hell no!

Such "spamyros" are typical in America, but good authentic gyros are made with slices of whole lamb and beef, stacked on the spit. They taste like meat, instead of extruded meat paste.

OH MY GOD GYRO PORN.  You are such a tease.  You make me long for my single days living in Chicago not too far from Wrigley Field.  Anytime day or night I could have delicious foods of any type delivered to my door.  I loved getting home from a night of partying and ordering anything I wanted.   I actually had Gyros from a number of those places.

I can't vouch for the links I found, but yes, Chicago-style gyros is processed beef, lamb, and spices, turned on a vertical spit, and sliced thinly downward. It does not taste like paste or the the over-processed "loaves" that you currently get in NH. I also like grilled meats, which you can get 10+ varieties at the Brazilian place in Manchester.

AHHH, that's the stuff.   ;D  Canton Ohio, not too far from the pro football hall of fame, is a place called Papa Gyros'.  Man they were good.

I bet I'm the only one here who's had gyros in Athens.

Ooh! I have!

Of course, in my case it was Athens, Georgia.

KBCraig

I was thinking of Athens, TX... but that's more of a catfish kind of town.
