Today I went to get my DL in Concord and checked that I didn't want them to retain an SS nor a picture. The 40-ish redheaded lady there basically went off for about a minute about identity theft, and how that if I was accused of a crime it would be harder to clear myself, etc.. After I ackowledged that I had listened to her and simply continued with my choices she continued on more, "from the point of view of law enforcement you'll want to not check those because..." and did everything except call me stupid. It REALLY grated on her bad that I was checking those boxes for some reason. I then argued with her about the growing trend in requiring DL swipes for bank transactions, alcohol purchases among other things, and how that anyone who ever swipes one of those things can have EVERYTHING on you, photo, address, SS, arrest warrants, medical records, credit history. Let any unscrupulous person use your DL and that's some real danger. Anyways, I brought up REAL ID and how it was all connected I could see that something clicked and her tone changed for the rest of the encounter. Or she just wanted me to shut up and move on as soon as possible, I don't know. Anyways, if you get a DL in Concord, and decide to choose those options for your license that NH has been cool enough to retain, the passive-aggressive in me would appreciate it if in some way you brought it to her attention you were doing so.

Now go back and make sure they actually did delete your SSN and picture from the database. They have a nasty habit of keeping them around against people's express wishes.

Or you could do what I did, and just not get one at all.

The car seems to operate the same with or without the piece of plastic...

When I got mine I didn't get hassled about checking those boxes.

(I did get hassled about my birth cert though)

Probably found it hard to believe your claim that your parents were a pair of Dwarfs from Togo Togo

Birth Certificate?  I don't have one.  I never got a birth certificate, but since I was born overseas to American parents, I got some documentation from the state department, but it was lost during my last move.

You're going to have one heck of a time then when it comes to proving you were actually born ;) I didn't get my birth certificate until I was 16. My parents thought the souvenir they got from the hospital with my footprints on it was it, then when I needed to get a passport, they brought that sucker down from my baby book and I pointed out that it wasn't actually valid...

Anyway.

I check marked those boxes for the one in Manchester and they raised nairy an eyebrow.
I should probably do what error suggested and make sure they actually deleted them....

Lloyd Danforth

I needed a BC for:

Starting grade school
Getting working papers at 16
Getting a drivers license

Error, so if you have no DL, and you get stopped at, say, a checkpoint for DUI or seat belts, and they see you have not got one, what happens? Here, they arrest you and fine you heavily.

I presume that's what would happen. Personally I don't drive through these immoral checkpoints.

Same with my Dad. He got his from the hospital (in '38). He didn't need a state one to get into the Air Force or for the security clearance that he needed later in life. But when he went to get a passport just a few years ago, it was a royal pain for him.
He had to explain to the young girl at the state records dept that he was not born in a 'nut house'. She did not know that back then Sanitariums were just another name for a Hospital.

We don't normally, either. But what happens here, if they see you turn around or turn the street, they assume you have something to hide, and they send one of their goons on a motorcycle after you, and you get caught anyways.

I used my passport to get my DL.

My girlfriend walked into the town hall where she was born, asked for a copy of her bith certificate and they gave it to her without checking ID, earlier this year.

My son's birth certificate is in Russian - should make for an interesting time some 12 years from now.

N.H. has a method for getting a certificate of foreign birth:
