Are they doing REAL ID in NH anyways? You tell me

To me it looks like they're now entirely building the infrastructure for REAL ID in NH. Look as the setup we're purchasing for 2008. Read or skim through it at least and look as all of the uploads of information to the Feds (page 134 for example). This looks really scary to me, and basically does everything except say the words "REAL ID."

I'm not sure one can draw conclusions from this document alone.  For all we know, this is just a computer upgrade, and the list of "uploads" to Federal agencies could be the same as those already done today.  Otherwise, it may be a violation of RSA 243:1,III, which prohibits the department of safety from expanding the motor vehicle records data is shares with other states, the federal government or other agencies, unless expressly authorized by NH statute.

Can you obtain a copy of the previous RFP to compare to?

I will be forfeiting my drivers license and exercising my right to travel. They can stick their ID card up their u-know-where.

Many here in Colorado are doing the same.

Well, the way I found this was researching the EVVE system which was being discussed on another thread. Currently NH doesn't utilize that Federal database, but here in this 2008 document it clearly will. That's just one "upgrade" that was immediately apparent. I can't imagine them NOT proceeding further along with path of tagging, tracing, DB-ing, and suspect that the REAL ID ban is being treated in the most limited, technical legal sense. This document shows a clear and obvious expansion from anything NH would have had years ago. Using computers is one thing, but the degree and volume of shared data outlined here is becoming crazy.

Henry, where in NH do you live?
I would suggest you contact Rep. Joel Winters and/or Rep. Neal Kurk.
Both are super privacy activists, and both are co-sponsors of HB685 that ensured NH will not participate in REal-ID "or any national ID system that may follow therefrom"
If there is some backdoor skullduggery, they will either a) want to know about it, or b) are already fighting it and could use help!
