Title: Where you @?
Post by: dalebert on June 30, 2007, 07:52 AM NHFT
I met lots of people at Porcfest that I know are from Keene. I'm moving pretty soon and if I go somewhere other than Keene, I'm just wondering what porcupines may be nearby. So those who have moved, where did you end up?

Hey Dalebert.

I moved to Manchester.  A lot of PORCs are in the vicinity (7 are in this house alone)...

Heyyy...... what's wrong with Keene?
Are we too radical for ya?   :mf_farmer: :icon_pirat:  ;)

Glad you'll be joining us in the 'Free State' soon... wherever you end up!

*tastes the activism in the big bowl*

This activism is too radical!

*tastes the activism in the medium bowl*

This activism isn't radical enough...

*tastes the activism in Keene*

This activism is just radical enough!

Actually it's mostly an issue of finding a place to live and work. I like the Keene people a lot. I'm still brainstorming about whether I want to get back into a job in software development or go off on my own in some manner- either start a business totally unrelated to my software skills or do some sort of freelance related to my skills. I'd love something that allowed me to be very mobile, in which case it would be a lot easier to go to Keene. Otherwise, I may just need to be in or near a more urban area.

New Hampshire is usually divided into 7 regions: Great North Woods, Lakes, Dartmouth/ Lake Sunapee, Monadnock, Merrimack Valley, Seacoast. I would say there are broadly 4-5 groups of freestaters, just based on the logistics of getting around.

Manchester area - Merrimack Valley - includes Nashua, and southeastern NH towns for Mass commutes (like me) - Error, CNHT, Toowm, cathleeninnh, Rosie the Riveter, John

Concord area - also Merrimack Valley, close to Manchester (15 minutes) but also attracts folks from the Lakes (n), west off I-89 (Dartmouth / Lake Sunapee), and east - d_goddard, SethCohn, Dreepa, Dagny Taggart

Keene area - Monadnock - Kannings, Caleb, DadaOrwell, FTL crew

Seacoast - lots of folks, not sure of webnames

Great North Woods, Coos county - Tyler Strearns, others again I'm unsure on their webnames

If the FSPs really want to get established, it might be wise to spread it out so that eventually we could make a run at the State House General Assembly - if that's what you call it in NH.  If we're too congested, we might make a dent in city or town politics, but no dent in State wide politics.

That's where my and my Wife's love lies.  My wife and I  helped start the Cool Moose Party here in Rhode Island which lost it's party status two elections later, but if everyone who has pledged to come to NH comes, it would be very easy to start an FSP Party, especially in these homeland security times.

People, even the average people,  are getting fed up with HS and the patriot act and there really couldn't be a better time for an FSP party.

There's already a Free Stater in the State House. There would be more already were it not for the two-year residency requirement. So get here sooner rather than later if you plan to pursue that route.

My fear is that the FSP party would turn into a 'debate society'.

Start up the Cool Moose Party in NH... and there is an ice cream store in Concord called Cool Moose... I am sure they would be happy.   :)

I don't think we have anything to fear about people all in one town. So far I think that people coming in are fitting in perfectly with what the demographics of the state are with many a few more in Keene and a few less in the Seacoast.. (just a feeling)

I am in Peterborough. Not a hotbed for radical libertarian activism. More like the hotbed for leftists, socialists, and hippies...oh my (they have "mandatory" recycling here. Makes me wonder what kind of force these progressive-pacifists would use to enforce the rule?).
I did see some rainbow-like people protesting the war in the central part of town the other day though.

I've also noticed that a lot more people here have gone out of their way to find license plate frames that cover up the "live free or die" slogan.
My daughter is quite happy wearing her Ron Paul rEVOLution shirt around town. She likes to stir the communitarian pot.

So what if it does?  At the end there would be a damn good platform with a great list of priorities which would have a little of everything in it for everyone!

That might be an interesting topic here:  What would you like to see in a FSP Party Platform?

Also the FSP can't get its collective ass in gear to get 20K to move to NH so I won't hold my breath thinking it can run a party.
I hope that the FSP dissolves 5 years and one day after the 20K limit is reached.

I don't want to see an "FSP Party." The FSP has no business taking particular political positions, running candidates, etc. It's a :bus: to get you off your lazy ass and here to New Hampshire, where you will participate in all the OTHER activity already in progress toward making this a freer state.

When our Country first started there were Federalists and there were Anti-federalists.  The Federalists wanted a strong national government and the Anti-federalists wanted a weak government and a strong State Government; so the Anti-Feds didn't go to Washington and they left the entire running of the government to the Feds.  Then they used everything that Jefferson and others predicted would happen as a blueprint to guarantee what happened to our Country would happen.

I've been fighting in RI for a long time and every time we bring up a constitutional "loophole" in the law it's guaranteed that the next session of our General Assembly would correct that "loophole".  The way to stop that behavior is to prevent it.

Title: Re: Where you @?
Post by: JohninRI on July 01, 2007, 03:49 PM NHFT
Error, you missed my point.  What I was attempting to demonstrate is that it is dangerous to leave the running of any government - federal, state and local - entirely to those that don't have your interests and the interests of those like yours in the hands of those that like things exactly as they are.  These people are not going to give up their power to feed and procreate on their constituents.  They will enact new laws to counteract whatever it is that has an adverse effect on their gravy train unless you and those with your position are there to ensure against it.  Example - Teachers.  Teachers are always well represented in any legislature in this country and this fact has always ensured that their agenda thrives.

If Free Staters don't make a concerted effort to take a good powerful hold on the laws proposed and enacted, then they are at the mercy of people who probably don't have the same interests as you and me.

Some people are offended by "live free or die". . . guess it's time to change the motto!  Think of something that doesn't offend anyone. . . . because I can't.  I make shirts for a living, and on all the transfers we do, for every bigname superstore in NH, none of them say "live free or die". . . . not even our bike week shirts say it, we have "live to ride ride to live"  or "living free in NH"

FSP just encourages people to move to NH.  Freestaters who have moved and some really great people who met them when they arrived are putting them off balance.

Its harder in NH, particularly at the state level, to control elections, except the two major parties maintaining their monopoly.

From Wikipedia:

QuoteDreepa Farm is a somewhat secretive organization that is most often found at liberty events. Recent sitings include a table at the NHLA Liberty Dinner and a vendor table at PorcFest. Ron Paul t-shirts seem to be a major source of funds for Dreepa Farm, although they did not appear to be for sale at the dinner, and child labor at PorcFest is being investigated. A spokesman for Dreepa Farm (although not of Indian descent) noted "Hey, he's 5'9" -- how was I supposed to know he was only 12!"

OK, so it's not from Wikipedia. Just PM Dreepa for the sordid details.

If all goes as planned, it looks like I'll be renting a room from a porcupine and sharing a space with a couple other porcupines in Amherst, about 6 miles outside of Manchester. It's a temporary but somewhat open-ended arrangement so I don't know how temporary yet. I'm planning to arrive around the middle of the month (July).

We have 4 of us in "Little Minnesota" in Deerfield. Don Gorman lives here also, and is on the school board.

Just a couple days ago one of the guys got a flat tire. The guy that stopped to help him talked about voting for Ron Paul in 1988.

We really could use a few more FSPers here in Deerfield. One more of us on the school board would make a huge difference.

Aww, you are just too modest...

You won't say it, so I will: The role you play is one of the most important in the freedom community.  Each new listener you reach with your well-articulated message of freedom and the free market, brings us all one step closer to real freedom -- and you have brought us a long way!

Keep up the good work!  :)

The Eagle has landed. No, not Bald Eagle. That's not for a few more days. :)

I crossed the NH state line about 8:30 tonight. I've been driving for 24 str8 hours with one hour of stilted rest at a rest stop so I'm gonna crash now but I look forward to meeting some people at Bald Eagle and Porcupine Kate's move-in, and if not there, then I also plan to make Tuesday night at Murphy's.

I had a dream last night where you were arrested on a bus (ala Rosa Parks) everyone came to your aid... by the time it was all over we had overturned the bus. Weird synchronicity, huh.

I dreamt last night that some crazy freestater drove for 60 straight hours from LA to Manchester and died in a fiery crash running into the "Welcome to NH" sign.

fyi for Los Angeles residents ...... you can drive to vegas nonstop but not ManchVegas :)

I am glad that my prophetic vision didn't come true .... again. I don't ever seem to get this stuff right.

Welcome to The Shire Dale

I got a good nap and started driving at 9pm last night. The plan was to only drive 18 hours str8 but there were... complications.

Just FYI, if NY and NJ dropped off into the ocean, I would not mind so terribly much. Hellholes, both.
