I was just trying on my V mask, and my cat Ezme (the one who has shredded my tax forms two years in a row) jumped into my lap and stared at my face. Then I took the mask off and put it on a chair, and she went over and started sniffing it. I'm telling you, this cat hates the government. ;D

Yes, it's true. I always thought of myself as a dog person (and I do dream of the day when I own my own home and can then own a dog again; after getting evicted from a rental many years ago and forced to give up my puppy, I took an oath to never get another dog until I was in a situation where no one had the power to force me to move (yes, yes, I know about eminent domain, I'm just mentally blocking it out right now :( )). But I have discovered quite late in life that that was a fallacy foisted on me by my parents, who both dislike cats and never let me have one. Now I totally dig cats. I feel confident I will wind up a crazy old lady in a shack in the woods with a shotgun and a few dozen cats. And googly eyes... because you can't be a crazy cat lady without googly eyes. :love10:

So what do they call men in the same old folks situation who own lots of cats? Just curious because I don't like dogs... They're pretty dumb, they smell bad, are needy, and they smell bad... Cats on the other hand are great... They kill vermin and drop it at your feet, they play with you for short periods of time and the rest of the time they are either sleeping or eating, They clean themselves, They can be toilet trained, They are sleek and elegant, and they don't smell bad... >:D

I think you should change your forum name to "Maureen Johnson Smith Long"
Trivia: Maureen's cat is named Pixel, and so is the cat on the cover of this insanely groovy album (http://www.amazon.com/Hidden-Step-Ozric-Tentacles/dp/B0001A3ILM/ref=sr_1_3/103-9971664-3290241?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1193627368&sr=8-3)

Oh, but it is soooo true.... That doggy smell just reeks... Only thing you have to deal with cats is the litterbox (and the pain in the ass that it is to train them to use the toilet instead of the box) and having to cut their gosh darn nails every few weeks... Other than that, cats rule!
Here's Spaz... There's a reason he's called spaz... He seriously maimed a chihuaha, and attacked a Lab a few years ago... He's very loveable except when ther's a dog around...

My stepmother was talking to me one time on the phone and she said, "Well, I'll put your dad on now, you know how he hates to say goodbye to his baby." So I thought she was talking about me, oh no of course not! He had to put his "baby" little ugly dog down to get on the phone with me. ::) I was so hurt but then again it was funny too!
My mom's dog got treated better than any of us kids, we lived on PB & J 's too, (for lunch otherwise we did have good dinners most of the time), but her dog had to have this special, special, expensive doggy food. ::)
Oh yeah and while were bitching and moaning on our peppy thread....... I was sick one time when I around 8 yrs old and I guess I puked in the wrong place of the supermarket so my mom really gave me hell for it, she even took my brother and sister out to eat and I had to watch but anyways her dog could puke anywhere she wanted and my mom would be like, "oh my gosh, my poor baby doesn't feel good."
Okay hostile emotions are forming now, I feel like letting my dog have a snack, (their dogs), so I better stop now! ;D

I had a bobtailed cat. He was my dog. He would greet me at the door. (he always had food, so he didn't greet me hoping to get more,) Good natured. Even with others, once he got to know you. He absolutely hated other cats. Not dogs, just cats.
Like facilitors cat, I don't think mine would have known what to do with a mouse if he saw one.
I was so upset the day I had to put him down, I swore never to care that much for an animal again or have one again. :'( As time passes, and insuferably peppy people force me to hear them talk about their cats, I am likely to break my vow. ;) Someday.

I believe the bobtail cats are born like that. It is a breed. My cat never had scar tissue, (I found him stray, so I definately looked) and I would never chop of its tail. He was neutered, but I will never have a body part chopped off purely for style.

A wild bobcat yes, but most domestic breeds have to have their ears and tail bobbed to show as the breed, such as the Boxers and Pit Bulls I used to own.
But boxers and pit bulls are dogs. A quick websearch finds that bobtail cats have naturally short tails.

Yeah.. There is a small 9-year old cockapoo we are looking for home for, as a result of this weekend's tragedy, and he is very tame and good with kids doesn't bark. I hope we don't have to bring him to the ARL. There is a waiting list for small lap dogs like him, but we want to make sure we see the family he goes to. His name is Bosco. He's very affectionate.
Sacrilege to speak of it on this thread.
Cats do not get ears cropped or tails docked. Just like bobcats, Manx (and other) cats are naturally bobtailed.
Declawing is the only physical modification made to cats, and I strongly discourage it. It leaves cats defenseless, with no way to climb or fight back. Not to mention, the claws are removed by cutting half the toes off -- like trimming your fingernails by cutting your fingers off at the first joint.

Your so right, I didn't even think about that. I am guilty in fact of choosing that for my sons, the doctors told me it would be better for them in the long run due to the cleanliness and appearance factor and I was young and naive and said, "okay."
One of my son's doctor told me that my son would probably resent me if I didn't have it done to him now while he was a baby and end up having it done when he became an adult.
I could get into some of my personal experiences with men being circumcised and uncircumcised but it would be off topic.
there are two kittens that live behind my house and are about 5 or 6 weeks old now and are super cute!
Theres another cat that is about 6 months old and is their adorable older brother who doesn't particularly let people get close to him but is adorable and has a mischevious and elusive air.
one of the kittens is unbelievably friendly/brave
We actually didnt know there were kittens until 4 weeks or so, because the cat had seemed to be pregnant just barely and then wasnt so I thought she had miscarried or something.

The Japanese bob tail is born that way... It is a recessive gene of some sort... besides this cat was the common street cat in Japan for centuries before being brought to the US for refining and breeding. I hear that they are all over the place in Japan.

Yeah, there's no way to know for sure, but I think that's probably true. It may be even stronger in dogs in particular. They're extremely sociable by nature. I've heard of many animals pining to death in a very short time after their favorite pet human dies.

I wish my cats knew what contentment was, they are always too busy trying to find somewhere to piss, puke, and shit in the basement. We scrub it down everyday, spend time with them because the family room is down there and it's still just not enough for them I guess. ::)

Your bobtail is cute 41 mag. I noticed he doesn't look very big. Was he young, or are they as a breed small. The bobtail I used to have was always petite compared to some cats. :'( I gotta stay away from this tread. I miss my baby, (cat).

Reading about cats makes me miss my cat. Alice. Puck's cat looks like a chuby virson on her. All cats are so cute. Before I got Alice I used to wish for a cat on all of my Birthdays. For a long time we couldn't have a cat because this guy that we lived with was alergic. But now that I have a cat I'm as happy as a kitten. :cat:
LOL....Alice was just attacking the UN Flag we have for a mat on the floor :) She stopped when I started laughing, though, so I didn't get a picture.

Buttercup is an Equal Opportunity Barfer.
Vomiting is a very vulnerable time for animals. The cats may blow lunch on the carpet because they can get a better grip in case they have to spring into action.
It might also be the closest thing to soil, and cats seem to like to bury their poo and stuph like that. Of course, they usually have a litter box but don't seem to use it for barf so I'm clearly a total idiot just rambling and pretending to know something when I really don't.
Who really knows about cats?

One of my ex-boyfriends used to toke up then get a fishing pole, (and a big bowl or Corn Pops), and play with our cats, (without a hook, derr!), for hours, just laying on the couch eating his cereal.
Yea, I saw that video and decided I had to get one eventually... I love cats, they can take care of themselves mostly, can be quite easily trained to "go" outside, they are a blast to play with, fascinating to watch play/stalk/hunt, they never bark, and they catch rodents... and with a Savannah cat rainey's ex-boyfriend may not need to get stoked to have a blast playing with the cat LOL.

I wish we would've let our cats be outside/inside cats but I was always too worried about them getting hit by cars in Maryland so now they wouldn't know what to do outside probably. We live in a stupid homeowner's
association anyway and we're not allowed to have outside animals.
In Connecticut, (where I grew up), we always had outdoor/indoor cats and I don't remember my mom and dad bitching about them at all. I had a cemetary in the back yard that I would bury the birds and moles that I'd find dead by our steps.
Ezme was just admiring herself in the bathroom mirror while I was brushing my teeth, then, without warning, leapt into the air and flung herself at the mirror. When she landed, she knocked over a glass and sent toothbrushes, Q-tips and assorted other sundries flying.

Yesterday I received a letter, compliments of the good ol' U.S.P.S. It had my last name, and the city I live in, on the envelope. Everything else, the first name, apartment number, street, and zip code, were different. The poor government employee was clearly confused; he/she wrote my apartment number on it, with two big question marks underneath it, and put it in my mailbox. ::) It looked like a late Christmas card (big red envelope). I placed it neatly with the rest of that day's mail in the standard location (translation: threw it on the living room floor). This morning, I noticed that one of my cats had mauled it and ripped the envelope open. Ordinarily I take the trouble to put misdelivered mail back in my mailbox with a note to the gooberment saying Not at This Address. But the envelope had no return address. And since it was already open, I figured I might as well read the card...

You have to REALLY love a cat to put up with stuph like that. :)
Well, the guy was hiding tuna up his nostrils...
I have this cat toy that's a fluffy hot pink boa-looking thing with a jingly ball on a stick. I've always reserved it for my female cat, who gets very excited and makes little squeaking noises when she sees it. But this evening I let my male cat play with it for the first time. He hissed, growled, arched his back, and is currently in the process of shredding it. He's so butch. :black_kitty:

Excerpts From A Cat's Daily Diary
Posted: Aug 27, 2007
Miss Fifi has a very busy summer, and as much as it pains me to admit, I needed a little help. So, I have forc—ah ... requested—the assistance of the feline who occupies my home. For the purposes of anonymity, we'll call her Dilettante Dilly.
I asked Dilettante Dilly to tell us about herself; instead of light-hearted ditties, she gave me this journal entry:
EXCERPTS FROM A CAT'S DAILY DIARY:
Day 683 of my captivity: My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape ... In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the floor.
Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. The audacity! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.
Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs. I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released --and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously touched in the head! The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. The captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe ... for now ...

Ezme caught at least two mice in my old apartment in Nashua. Either I have a knack for finding mice-ridden places to live, or she's a good mouser (or both). :black_kitty:
I think our cats get two a day :o
Tommy just caught his first mouse; my baby boy is all grown up. :'( And unfortunately, I got to listen to an extended session of bat-the-already-dead-mouse around on the bedroom floor while I was trying to sleep. When I felt a cat jump onto the foot of the bed, I knew something was going horribly awry. :Bolt:
I fear it's going to be a long winter. :coffee:
At least you don't have live mice running around :)

Awww, sorry Friday! :hug45: At least he's a good 'mouser' though and that will help you keep any mice problems in control. :-\
My sister helps feral cats in the neighborhood , she has about 20 in her yard. She gets some spayed/neutered as she can afford it but they leave dead birds, mice, moles, etc. on her steps almost every hour. It upsets her but they are cats.
Good luck and I hope it's a
good long winter for you and Tommy! :D

Cats Kill Over 1 Billion Birds Each Year in U.S. (http://birdchaser.blogspot.com/2008/03/cats-kill-over-1-billion-birds-each.html)
Thursday, March 20, 2008
Some folks don't seem willing to accept the magnitude of the cat predation problem. While it is a bit tricky to come up with solid numbers of birds and other animals killed, we can make estimates based on a growing number of studies of cat predation.
...
How to Choose a Cat Who Will Kill Mice (http://www.ehow.com/how_4715106_cat-who-will-kill-mice.html)
Just about any cat will kill a mouse, given the right circumstances. Some cats seem to live for the hunt, though, while others prefer to wait for the occasional mouse to stumble directly into their paths. If you live in an area where mice and other rodents are a problem, there are a few guidelines you can use to find a cat who will eagerly seek out such prey.

Naw, I'm fine with my cats killing birds. Little tweeting, flying, pooping, seed-demanding freaks. If God had wanted them to fly, he'd have given them wings. :hopmad: Wait, that didn't come out right.
:biglaugh:
We had a woodpecker for a while that seems to have finally moved on. Made a hole in my house. If my cat had killed that thing, I would have arranged a ticker tape parade in her honor.

According to my vet, a lot of cats dig running water. She put the faucet on to distract one of my cats while he was getting examined.
Bringing back an old one.
Water Waster Cat is illegal in CA, NV and NM.
Check your local codes for applicable restrictions to your cat's cute activities.
There may also be state and federal restrictions... and the UN... the UN will also have restrictions on your cat's cuteness activities.
I've read that cats love trickling/running water.
And have seen my own cats be the same way.
When I'm in the bathroom Niko will often jump onto the sink and meow at me until I tunr in the water just a little bit so he can drink and play in it.

I understand that new movers to CA have to put their water wasting cats and large screen TV's in a 'blind trust'.
We have had the usual carnage around here lately. Everyday there are little dead bodies with varrying lengths of snout and tail , but, Ziggy hasn't brought a live one in for a while.
Tonight he brought up a live mouse from the cellar and let it go. He chased it around for awhile. I felt something on my slipper. I thought it was Ziggy sniffing. Then I thought he bumped my calf, but, he wasn't near me. Then there was a lump in my pants leg! It started moving.....up! I cupped my hand around it and got up. It snuck under my hand still moving.....up! I grabbed tighter, heading down the hallway, hoping I wouldn't squeeze him to death and that he wouldn't bite me. The cat followed me wondering what this new game was. I opened the door, hung my leg out a shook my pants leg. I don't know where he went, but, he's not in my pants.
Is that a mouse in your pants, Lloyd, or are you just happy to see me? :D
Apparently, only a little!
This morning he was torturing a vole or a mole. I took it away from him and carried it out doors. I guess they can't bite, but, his front legs were quite powerful as he tried to get out of my paw.
'Tis the season when the rodentia try to move indoors for the warmth.
...Or, down here, 'tis the season when the "water bugs"/"Palmetto bugs"/"big-ass cucarachas" decide to move inside. They also provide the cats with entertainment.
The cat goes outside and brings them in. That in itself is bad enough, but, finding mouse shit on my counters and flushing outside rodents down the toilet really sucks!
I think Tommy was jealous that Ezme was sitting in my lap, so he just laid a dead mouse at my feet. How... sweet?
Trying to by you off!

I am sitting here right now, hating my 2 cats! >:( The idiots are climbing inside the air exchange system thing in the basement! I feel them because my desk is right over the thing. It's been about 2 weeks now that Rick has piled stuff up trying to stop them from getting up there, he just put a board up there last night and the little fuckers are still getting in there!
Excuse my language but does anyone want 2 cats? :-\

Andy plays fetch. I was trying to do my DDR this morning and she kept bringing her mouse and dropping it at my feet on the pad. I'd toss it to the couch and she'd pounce on it and play for a moment and then bring it back and drop it at my feet again.

I was singing a Soundgarden song, very badly, and Tommy started meowing loudly (which he doesn't do very often). I wish I knew what it meant.
A) Soundgarden! F yeah!!
B) Check out my Chris Cornell imitation; not bad, right?
C) Shut uuuuuuuuuuup.
D) Is it time for second breakfast yet?
E) You are an idiot.
F) some combination of two or more of the above
