But I got a Question.  I was thinking, GWB has the ability to call martial law... DOes Obama have this "law" also?
It would be O so scary if so.. he seems like a power hungry dude who would enjoy Directing us!?

okay, i did a huge essay (mainly to teach/tick off my liberal friends) on why obama is worse that bush.
one of the issues i sited was as follows:

his transitional team has spoken several times about this subject, and i will quote a BBC news report:

"The Washington Post reported that transition officials had compiled a list of some 200 executive orders to be considered for repeal. "

GREAT!!! is what i thought.  so we can stop the warrantless wiretaps, the torture in military prisons, restore hebeas corpus, end the patriot act, no longer allow illegal pre-emptive war, once again have transparency instead of having to be lied by a president who hides everything he does behind an excuse of 'executive privilege', and everything else bush ruined can now be undone. nope. all of that stays. instead, obama's big "change" will be in the form of reversing BS.

stem cell research, drilling in utah, environmental legislation, funding abortion abroad (wtf?), etc... wow. so, by "change" he means taking the opposite stance on a subject that he has no business deciding in the first place.

sorry to say, obama will retain those martial law "if need be" powers (actually originally formed by eisenhower, but refined over time by each president, to resemble his own martial law).

oh, and you don't want to be 8 again... cause then you'd be forced into one of these mandatory obama "youth brigades" for the next 17 years of your life.

This is one of those idiotic wedge issues that goes back and forth each time the presidency switched from Republican to Democrat and back. Basically, the U.S. throws billions of dollars at foreign governments in an effort to render them dependent on the U.S., then they'll attach strings to the funding (e.g., medical aid can't be used to provide abortion services) in an effort to influence what should be domestic policy  considerations. This particular string is, of course, one that the Republicans reinstitute each time they come to power, and the Democrats eliminate when they come to power.
