There won't be a draft. "Selective Service" isn't about military service, it's about forcing compliance for student loans, government jobs, etc.

I'm 44, and graduated HS in 1981, just a week after I turned 18. The day after my 18th birthday I marched down to the post office and filled out the SS card. My uncle was the postmaster, by the way.

I didn't think anything more of it. I went to college, decided to join ROTC as a non-scholarship student, and served 40 months of active duty as an Army officer.

Right after I got out, while I was looking for private-sector jobs, I received a threatening letter at my parents' address. It was from Selective Service, warning me of the consequences of not registering.

That'll teach ya for registering.  I probably knew more people who didn't register than people who did.
