He was quoted as considering himself libertarian... then suggested the town pay for the material to build a fence, to block the view of a property he felt offensive to his sale.

Yeah, which I think partially comes from non-libertarian radio talk show hosts and tv talking heads calling themselves "libertarian".

Reminds me of a few others:
"I don't mean to pry, but... "
"I'm not one to gossip, but... "
"It's not my place to judge, but... "
"I support the 2nd Amendment, but... "
