My continued presence on this forum is a great example of evidence that could be used to argue my insanity.

The human brain is a very complex organ, quite possibly the most sophisticated one in the known universe, and its functions are subject to dozens of categories of different processes, some of which can go wrong for a variety of reasons, as is the case with any other organ.  The scientific method can establish which chemical reactions have which effect in which circumstances, crudely but effectively enough...  Modern psychiatry is helping tens of millions of people live a better lives - by their own voluntary choice and acknowledgement!

Right on, the problem's inherent in the State, not the field of psychiatry. It's even scarier when the victim is a child, which are often caged in "mental health" prisons for "crimes" that wouldn't even be considered a crime if they were a few years older -- like demonstrating independence by running away from home or having sex.

Interesting entrepreneurship opportunity: a psychiatrist that *won't* forcibly commit you.

We are in full agreement, except for one thing you've mentioned in passing on the matter of alleged children's rights.  In some cases the desire to run away does not equate to the capacity to be a self-owning Rational Economic Actor, in which case the dependents should indeed be forcefully returned to their parents / lawful guardians, who indeed have the Right to limit their activities until they can be emancipated properly.
