Just passing stuff along.  I wouldn't want a friend to suffer an assault by the TSA just, to have a building fall on them in Cancun.

A 7.2 earthquake has hit the island nation of Vanuatu. The earthquake struck just below the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on early Friday morning. After the earthquake, a very brief tsunami watch was handed out for the region. It has been reported that little damage has been caused by the earthquake, as there were no reports of any major damage in the region.

According to experts, the earthquake struck just after 4 AM local time. The exact epicenter of the earthquake was actually 300 miles northwest of Port Vila, the capital city in Vanuatu. It was said to be over 20 miles below the surface. Following the earthquake, a number of sirens blasted tsunami warning signs to the rest of the island. However, according to all of the equipment that was in place, there was no signs of a tsunami following the huge earthquake.

Authorities have said they are looking into any reports of damage, and also said they were pleased to hear that the tsunami warning would be shut off following a brief caution period where the sirens were sounding.

Some damage may have occurred and has gone unreported. Authorities in the area have said that it may take a couple of days to get to a few of the small villages that have no way to get into contact with the capital to assure that everyone in the small nation is okay, and that there will be no lasting damage to any settlements in the area.

A powerful earthquake off the Solomon Islands generated a tsunami of up to 1.5 meters (about 5 feet) that damaged dozens of homes and likely killed several people in the South Pacific island chain Wednesday.

Authorities canceled warnings for tsunamis on more distant coasts.

Solomons officials reported two 1.5-meter (4 foot, 11-inch) waves hit the western side of Santa Cruz Island, damaging between 70 and 80 homes and properties, said George Herming, a spokesman for the prime minister. Many villagers had headed to higher ground as a precaution, Herming said.

Solomon Islands Police Commissioner John Lansley said local police patrols had reported that several people were presumed dead, though the reports were still being verified.

"Sadly, we believe some people have lost their lives," he said. "At the moment we potentially know of four, but there may of course be more."

One of the people presumed dead was fishing in a dugo
