This may be a state by state thing, because I've never heard of this. When I originally got my license 12 years ago I didn't have insurance, and didn't have a problem. I just got an Illinois license a few weeks ago, because the one from my old state was about to expire. I haven't owned a car or had insurance in almost four years. I didn't have any problems.

I see it mostly in NY, Maryland, Florida, and TX. But other states are like that too.

Ah, I've never lived in any of those states, so that would explain why I've never heard of that before.

BTW, a few years ago you did not need insurance in TN.

I could have sworn it was the law...4 years ago?  eesh, long time...

I've never found a bank that will give someone a car without insurance.

I've never found a bank that will give someone a car. Maybe that's a Tennessee thing: get insurance, get a free car from the bank!

If any of you get one of these bills from NY, I can show you the secret to get around paying it.

I prefer burning them over a nice open fire in our local park. It adds just the right flavor to your hot dogs. I burned my TSA bills there last year. Maybe we could add it to the UN flag burn ceremony. Burn anything you don't acknowledge as in authority over you.
