Yeah, Texas just started this scam. But since it's an administrative fee tacked onto the DL fee, I don't know how NY plans to get away with assessing it against a CT driver.

You've got to be kidding me.

Here's a case of the State trying to take the place of insurence companies. It's one thing if an insurence company believes that a ticket makes you a more risky driver and your premium goes up. But what the hell does that have to do w/ the State? What exactly is this money "used" for. Certainly not for insurence.

That's a racket. Never heard of such a thing.

NH ought to pass a bill fining other states for fining its citizens in such a manner.

Driver responsibility taxes were inspired by the insurance industry practice of turning minor speeding violations into a recurring source of revenue.

Does anyone else see how messed up that statement is?  Insurance is OPTIONAL (although that option is not always legal) and you can CHANGE INSURANCE COMPANIES.  You can't just change governments or choose not to have one.  WHY do I not own a working tank?!?

Ooh, I like that...too bad the states help eachother steal from us instead.  Mass and NH have a lovely reciprocation law that my old roommate got caught in.  Basically she got caught in NH driving on an expired Mass licence just after she moved to NH.  She no longer lived in Mass.  She got that taken care of, got an NH licence, all good.  And then Mass suspended her lisence because she got caught in NH with a Mass licence....  One, I might remind you, that she didn't have.  So NH suspended her licence.  She got THAT fixed, and then, because NH suspended her licence, because Mass suspended her licence, Mass suspended it again, which made NH suspend it too.  See the problem here?

As somebody that works customer service for a car insurence company I definitely am aware of those kinds of horror stories. It's down-right sick.

Here's another one. Insurence companies by law aren't allowed to insure you unless you have a valid drivers license. However, if you don't have insurence, you can't get your license.  Lots of people get caught in that catch-22. Esurence will insure somebody, find-out they don't have a valid drivers license. Cancle the policy. The person will turn around to try to get their license reinstated but because they don't have insurence the state doesn't let them.

It's a big headache for everybody -- except the government. I secretly think they like torchoring people.

This may be a state by state thing, because I've never heard of this. When I originally got my license 12 years ago I didn't have insurance, and didn't have a problem. I just got an Illinois license a few weeks ago, because the one from my old state was about to expire. I haven't owned a car or had insurance in almost four years. I didn't have any problems.

In NH insurance is optional.  I believe you are supposed to have insurance in TN by law, but they don't really check it unless you get into an accident, then they'll want to see it.  Lord knows there are SO many people driving in Memphis without insurance...

This is simply Taxation without Representation.

I call it the pussy way out.  They add a tax to out of staters who have no say in the matter.

It is like cities who want stadiums they charge a special tax on rental cars to help pay for the stadium for a private company (NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA) but mostly out of towners rent cars so they figure big deal.

Or like Mass who makes you pay income tax even if you live in NH?  But you have no ability to vote...nice.  Of course I just got done reclaiming some of my stolen income and I got a good chunk of it back to.  The twits should pay interest.

I know a lot of those people.  BTW, a few years ago you did not need insurance in TN.  Of course, I've never found a bank that will give someone a car without insurance.  Anyway, SD sucks.  I would need insurance (which is OK because I have it) but I am not even allowed to have an abortion in SD and that may become a problem ???

So, if you live in NH and work in Mass, they'll take out state taxes?

What if you refuse to fill out a Mass. tax form when you take the job?
