In Illinois, I doubt anybody would notice if you took off your plates. I think every tenth car is driving around without metal plates.

When I was in IL (1977) the temporary registration was a sticker in one corner of the windshield.

In Illinois, the temporary tag is mounted in the back window, instead of over the permanent plate area, and is usually not white or any other highly visible color. You can guess what the end result of this is.

Now it's a cardboard "plate" that lasts 2 - 6 weeks. Still I'm sad at what we've (me included) become. The government shits and we grab a shovel and pay them a shovel fee.

I can make cardboard plates!

I'm not clear on what direction I want to go. Going to have to let or get off the privvy pretty soon. Illinois just made it a "law" that if you are behind on child support you can have your (state's) driver's license suspended and your (state's) vehicle booted. I suppose if your (state's) vehicle stays booted for XX days then it can be impounded and sold at auction thereby paying whatever portion of the past due debt, but not pay it forward.

We have wondered for years what the legal obligation of the certificate of title is. Now we know. You don't own your state titled vehicle. The state does. You don't own your house that is deed recorded with the county. The county does. We need a much better plan.

Tell me again what is the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again.......
