If a completely civil forum participant gets smited into oblivion just for coming from a different perspective, what does that say about lovers of liberty?
I don't think that says anything about "lovers of liberty"
I think it speaks volumes about what happens when a small group of people isolate themselves from civil society and open discussion with their neighbors -- people who come from vastly different backgrounds and points of view.

I would point out that over the years I've posted here, many people have been posters for awhile, then left or drastically reduced their participation, because they felt members of this forum were intolerant.

Doesn't matter if you are morally correct and throughly nonviolent. Belittling other people -- even ones you know are "wrong" -- ensures you will be ineffective in changing hearts and minds.

True, and a good reminder.

Although sometimes I see a person who has left his account and now shows up as "guest" and I think it goes both ways. Sometimes people leave so as to get the last word in on their perceived "affront". I noticed how many people left after Kat and Russell made the forums nonpolitical, and in my mind its a lot like a little brat kid taking their ball and going home cause they didn't get their way.
