Either they need to accept the tokens in perpetuity, or they need to have some way of refunding people's money for the tokens.

Principled and correct!

And slightly retarded.

Are you fucking kidding me?  It is never retarded to stand up for your principles.

The idiot trooper who cited him, and the jackass judge who jailed him seem to be the ones who are mentally challenged.

It seems like the cops are desperate for more money flow. In this case, this poor man will probably have to pay for everything, and not just his court fees. I hope he gets a good lawyer, but I suspect, even then, he will be bankrupted. All over 50 cents. :(

these are the same bureaucrats that if they passed a law saying 2+2=5 would jail people spouting the truth that 2+2=4.  Follow the orders not the logic to the truth

Well, the bible says that pi = 3 and we are supposed to take that as gospel.

50 cents or three days in jail.  If someone with a gun came up to me and said, "Give me 50 cents or I'm locking you in my basement for three days," I'm giving him the money, even though not giving monetary support to violent thugs is a very solid principle of mine.

By the point at which he was offered the choice, it wasn't "three days in jail or 50¢," it was "three days in jail or $150." Considering that three days of jail is probably going to cost them a lot more than $150, and unless I had something really important to do on one of those three days, I'd choose jail too.

They'll be paying for his stay in jail, instead of him paying them $150. And this is one reason people doing civil disobedience take jail over fines—they're going to waste a lot more money holding you in jail than the fine you refused to pay was worth.

Pi does not equal any exact number; if it did, it wouldn't be infinite. But it does "equal" 3, if expressed to one significant figure.

You should have read to the end. Turns out the description was exactly right.

Wait until they make prisons into workcamps like they do in China. Then prisons will be seen as human resource allocators.

Oddly the Chinese had the pi figure out to 8 decimal places just a few centuries later. :)
