It was a nice day. I didn't rant at all.  ;D I did say a prayer for everyone who has no one over the holidays, everyone imprisoned for illegitimate reasons, and lost souls especially SS, FBI and Federal Marshals.

Opened with smoked nuts, fresh fried sweet potato chips and Irish Cheddar and British Sage Derby cheeses. Then roasted duck with rosemary, garlic and sea salt, turnips with ginger, garlic mashed with gravy, fresh cranberries in cane syrup and of course booze and coffee.

I'm boiling the duck carcass for soup this morning. Now on to the Christmas myth.  :icon_santa:

How was everyone else's day?

We had a good day. It was actually cooler here than it was in NYC for the parade.

Turkey and cornbread dressing, green beans, baked sweet potatoes, cream cheese corn, mashed potatoes, giblet gravy from the turkey drippings, apple pie, pumpking pie, and banana pudding.

It was the four of us plus one brother-in-law.

Very good day. Except I had to go to work at 4, with a full belly.  :-\

I just got back from three days with my family, in Massachusetts. That could be construed as a good thing or a bad thing depending on which part of that sentence you look at first...

Thanksgiving dinner was just my mother and her husband—turkey, candied yams, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, apple cider, eggnog, squash pie, apple pie, and pecan pie. It was over 60°F in Massachusetts on Thanksgiving, rained a bit, but got back to normal late-fall weather today.

Later, my aunt, her son, and his daughter came over, and I showed everyone some of the videos of the stuff I've been up to here in New Hampshire: "Finding Life and Liberty in the Free State Project," Dave Ridley's open-carry incident, and a couple of the videos about Lauren Canario, and the Porc Manor raid, from The Ridley Report. I left behind a handful of the FSP bookmarks and Ron Paul handouts for everyone. My cousin and his daughter really liked the whole FSP idea. ;D At some point, I think some of them will be coming up to one of the MVP meetings to see what we're all about.

I'm back in Manchester as of today. I came back with my mother so she could enjoy some nice tax-free shopping in New Hampshire. On the way out of the Mall of New Hampshire, we actually saw the Ron Paul wookiee in action.

I always boil the carcass for soup. I cool it, spoon the grease off of the top, take the bones out and add whatever vegetables (rice or whatever) I have on hand then freeze half. I made the mistake of turning on the TV yesterday to the nationally syndicated "Mr. Food". He said it's not enough just to boil the carcass. You've also got to add the drippings from the bottom of the cooking pan.

No word about spooning off the grease - he says add more. I wonder how many heart attacks the man has had.

I've done the carcass/soup thing before, but not this year. We do it when we buy a roast chicken. Makes great soup!

As for the drippings... huh? That's the base for giblet gravy. Boil the drippings in a sauce pan, add the neck and giblets, add a can of chicken broth for volume, thicken with corn starch, throw in a chopped hardboiled egg, and you've got gravy!

Never heard of the hardboiled egg. I'll have to try it. As for the gravy I make mine the same way but the giblets never make it to the gravy bowl.  ;)

I am not a skinny cook.  ;D
