I learned of this case because this doctor had been hired by a small rural hospital in this area, only to have the contract revoked when they learned of his conviction.

Short version: a medical resident at the Mayo Clinic received child porn via unsolicited email. He contacted the FBI, and even help them set up a sting operation on the sender (the sting fell through).

When he moved to Little Rock to continue his residency, he contacted the local FBI, told them of his previous contacts with the Minneapolis office, and asked what he should do with the images, which were still on his computer. They told him to just hang on to them, since they could be evidence.

Well, they were evidence, all right -- when they prosecuted him for receiving and possessing child pornography.

Of special interest is the last article, and what became of the federal prosecutor.

That's one of the many crimes you're legally required to report, too, unless you want to be considered an accomplice.

Ridiculous.

How does that tale go about the scorpion on a wolf's back?
The wolf helps the scorpion across a river and half way across the scorpion stings the wolf.
As the wolf and scorpion are drowning the wolf asks why?
The scorpion replies that it's his nature to sting.
