No testing for transfers.

Also, driver training is only required for under 18 and "certain non-US citizens temporarily residing in NH."

Is there also a re-testing requirement for seniors over a certain age?  When I was at the DMV recently there were quite a few old folks, and many of them were grumbling about some notice they received indicating they needed to be re-tested.

Yep, retesting at age 75. (Don't know if this is one time only or every time you renew your license.) Illinois is the only other state to require age related retesting.

I'm gonna need help 'cramm'in' for this in 15 years or so.  Or, perhaps a CD effort.   I hope.

Damn NH IS better than CA! What about mandatory smog checks?

OBD II checks only. Ths means 1996 and later vehicles are checked by their on-board diagnostic computers only. There are no tailpipe checks. This coincides with annual safety inspection.

Sounds intrusive. What does this "safety inspection" consist of? Also, does anyone check/care if you don't do it after the first time your particular vehicle is in their system?

You have 10 days after getting the car registered in NH to get inspected. If the plate expiration and inspection sticker month/color do not agree many cops will pull you over. This includes having NH plates without sticker.

Safety inspection involves the entire car and some places (Sears, Midas, American Brake, among oters) have been known to fail even the smallest items to get you to have them repair the defects. The nice thing abot NH is you can take the vehickle to anyone for repair or even do it yourself. The re-inspection is free.

OK how often does this have to be done?

When you take it in for inspection, let them know they've no financial motive to not pass the car—casually mention that you have a friend who can do whatever work might be needed on the car, or something similar.
