I have some old U.S. dimes that have about a tenth of an oz of silver in them.

Really?  What year are those from?

Did you find a ride yet, Ryan?

I'm planning to have some games in Keene when I get there. I figure we can have small stakes poker nights as well as casino nights. I want to invest in a craps layout and we can have Blackjack. I figure we can all contribute a few bucks that becomes the "house" and then that money will tend to grow due to the slight house advantage and can be used to buy pizza or something. Essentially, the food is funded by the losers. :) I think casino games can be fun and this is a way to play them without feeling like the casino is just robbing you blind.

I love poker!  Darn it, I wish I lived closer!

I remember the first "real" game of poker I ever had.  I was 16 and my brother's friends invited me to play, thinking they were going to win my money.  Ha!  I kicked their butts!  We were only playing with nickels, dimes, and quarters and I walked out of there with $15 and all of their respect! ;D

As each of my sisters and I got to be about 5 or 6 years old my parents taught us Poker.  They had a big can of pennies from which everyone was issued the same amount, and you had to try to hold on to them and try to get more!

My grandmother taught me. We used to play all the time. I don't think I learned much actual practical information though. I think I learned most of what I know relatively recently. College classes in probability and statistics helped, along with a complete lack of faith in "luck" or anything else magical and unnatural.

I used to play poker and smoke cigars with my big brother and his friends.

how did it go?
will you be repeating it at your place or at Burning Porcupine?

dalebert

I think quite a lot of fun was had by all, if you discount a couple of brief periods of time where I became overly loquacious about certain sexual matters after having too much beer. But in my defense, Ryan started it!

Older brothers, you gotta love them!

I remember when my brother found out I was drinking, he called me in this house with all of his friends and gave me a lecture about hanging out with the "big boys", as he poured me cups of this stuff that tasted like wood.  We made a pact that he wouldn't tell on me if I didn't tell on him.  He opened the door to send me on my way and I didn't realize how shit-faced drunk I was;  I fell and rolled down this big hill while him and his friends laughed at me!  It was really embarrassing!

No, you weren't shit-face - couldn't have been! You remembered it! ;D

Neat idea!
