Does anyone have the capability of dubbing fairly hi-res vid into their computer from a mini-dv cam?  I might need to dub in 30 minutes of vid then port it to my laptop. I have the cam , the card, and the wire if your comp can handle, say 2mbps with ease.
This would be slightly less quality than a TV image I think.

Is this something you're looking to buy?  Or is it just a one time thing?

I used to borrow fancy three-chip cameras from MCAM to record Toastmasters meetings before I decided it was too much hassle to check them out and return them. I'd take the camera home and play it into a DVD recorder that I got as a closeout for $50. Then I could import the DVD into any cheap video editing software. And I had a DVD backup as a bonus.

It was more than good enough for public access TV.

I can pull stuff off a MiniDV camera with a standard 1394 port. Obviously. I've been doing it a while now. :)

i have a laptop you can use it is a XPS 1710 and it is loaded.  Also have a MacBook Pro and an XPS 1210.  i have a bunch of desk space here at my place if you wanted to do it here one weekend or weeknight?
if you want a desktop I can probably set you up with my old HTPC/DVR rig - its mini atx (small form factor) and relatively powerful as well.  does that help?
