I honestly didn't think they even bothered to charge people with this, but, as seen in today's Lebanon Daily News:

Alex M. Ladika, 31, of 329 Cindy Drive, Jonestown, was sentenced to 18 months probation and fined $250 for retail theft and inhaling a toxic substance, gas or fumes from whipped cream cans.

Unfortunately, he lives in the same podunk little town as I do, so I've been locking all my doors and windows and will keep my eye out for this can sniffer...

What I find most amusing, though, is the fact that he stole it. I wasn't aware whippits were as addicting as heroin to drive folks to rob stores to fuel their habit. Shame on you, Mr. Ladika, for dragging the store owner into your creamy orgy.

P.S. I just checked CourtDoc, and he was actually charged under two separate laws for his can-sucking actions. Both third degree misdemeanors, but still... isn't that going a little overboard for such a harmless act, that we've all done at one time or another?

I heard about this stuff in ohio.  I thought that all that is in those cans is carbon dioxide, but it must be something else.

Nitrous oxide, AKA "laughing gas". It absorbs into the cream without making it fizzy and produces a creamier feel than CO2 or N2 (which is used in beer).

I was led to believe that they get the bottles of N20 that are used to add to the cream to get high, not the cream with the N20... have to have a lot of cool whip to feel much I'd imagine.
