Less than 5 hours after arriving home to some boxes from NewEgg (via UPS), I have a working Hackintosh!

I assembled a mini-ITX box using an Intel D945GCLF2 motherboard (integrated Dual Core Atom 330, integrated GMA 950 graphics), and after 3 false starts successfully installed using iPC 10.5.6.

Wow. After using a 10 year old G3, this feels like riding lighting!

I'm not done; I still have to get the audio working. But the computer works! First time I ever built my own, and it's a Mac! (sort of!)

Oh, and if someone wants a $250 computer, this kind of hardware is the way to go.

Mini-ITX Intel Dual Core motherboard, $80 (integrated CPU and graphics)
DVD burner, $22
2GB RAM, $18
320 GB SATA-II drive, $60
Mini-ITX case w/250 watt power supply, $50

That's under budget and leaves money for a firewire card or USB keyboard.

Nice.

I got sick of messing with my hackintosh, but it's certainly better than WIndows if you can avoid the insane cost of hardware lock-in with Apple.

Hey KBCraig,

Which parts actually parts from Newegg did you use to get your Hackintosh up and running.

thanks

Intel D945GCLF2 motherboard
One stick (2GB) of DDR2 PC5300 RAM (Kensington)
320GB Western Digital drive (any 3.5" SATA drive will do)
Mini-ITX case (I used an Apex; take your pick)

That's it, since the CPU, video, and LAN are all integrated on the motherboard.

For the install, either iPC or Kalyway seem to work fine.
