And you're staying in Londonderry, why?

GT

I have not done a lot of looking, but what I have seen is most of southern NH is doing the same thing. The state is requireing property taxes to be assesed on 100% of the property value. Londonderry of course does'nt seem to be considering lower the tax rate to offset the higher evaluations.

In Merrimack, tax bills go out in June and December--not September.? I believe Londonderry is the same.? What you may be looking at is an assessment of the value of your property, not your new tax bill.? If your property value increase represents the average increase in your community, then your taxes won't go up.? If your increase is above the average, your taxes will go up.? If the value increase is lower than the average, your taxes will go down.? The actual tax rate in NH towns is managed by the state Dept of Revenue.? They take the total value of all the properties in a town or city and divide that by the total budget of the school and town government to get the tax rate.? (There is also an equalization factor applied when determining the state/county taxes to equalize those towns and cities that are not at 100% assessment level.)? Merrimack taxes have been increasing faster than the average surrounding towns.? The way to control this is to approve smaller budgets.

especially if you don't pay property taxes 8)

at 18-20% a year ...... it is just mind boggling how big the bills can become :o
3%
3.6%
4.32
5.18
6.22
7.46
you could be buying your house back from the government every 10 years ..... at current values each time :(

Russell Kanning

does it somehow give you pleasure that the government in NH sucks almost as bad as every other state? I don't get it.

Sung where do you live now?

Kat Kanning

The spy network says "Florida".

If you get a chance to see the replay on Ch. 11,? Lynch was interviewed by NPR with former Governors: Sheehan, Benson, Merrill, Sununu and Peterson.? What Sununu and Merrill expressed is despite what the political mood may dictate donot fall for sales or income taxes.? No where that ha ever instituted them have property taxes ever gone down.? Worth seeing.

Great!  It is also nice to see that NH has so many living ex governors.  It shows turnover.  In CT the one's that don't go to prison just stay around forever!

doesn't it even seem worse for mayors ..... they seem to be in office forever in big cities like L.A.
