DHS' Border Patrol to Target "Aggressive Driving" in Pennsylvania

Erie-Times News
July 13, 2009

Editor's note: Since when is a federal law enforcement agency within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a component of the Department of Homeland Security, responsible for "monitoring" drunk and aggressive drivers in Pennsylvania? The state does not have a direct border with Canada, except for a small area on Lake Erie. Obviously, this "program" is intended to extend the power of the DHS at the expense of the states and get the commoners accustomed to the feds meddling in what should be a state responsibility.

State police will ramp up patrols of highways on Wednesday as a part of a tri-state traffic enforcement program.

Pennsylvania State Police, in a joint effort with the Ohio Highway Patrol, New York State Police and U.S. Border Patrol, will target aggressive driving, impaired driving and speeding during a 12-hour period.

In Pennsylvania, Interstates 90, 79, 80 and 86 will be heavily patrolled. Police will employ aerial speed enforcement along with motor carrier enforcement officers.

They call it "Smooth Operater" around here. Anything that involves co-operation between states pulls in either the FBI or DHS and given the number of Homeland Security police I've been seeing around here, it's likely DHS. And around here, it's not a 12-hour thing, it's every three months for three months.

I'm not saying this isn't wrong. I'm just saying it's so common to me already it's not news. :S
