Police abuse of black scholar, major story

I officially withhold all judgment on this incident.

It goes without saying that police generally can't be trusted (although there are exceptions). It also goes without saying that someone who is an "esteemed professor" at Harvard and chair of an ethnic studies program, can be assumed to have a serious predisposition to believe he's a member of the oppressed class, and to cry "foul" where there has been none. (Again, there are exceptions.)

There is no exception to this: when the Cambridge/Haahvaad political machine kicks in, nothing that is officially released or reported in any Boston-based news source can be trusted. In another venue, we might expect more truth to come to light with the passage of time. Not here.

So, we have no reliable information with which to judge this incident: everything is tainted by PC/political spin.

It turns out the cop is a racist and doesn't (may not) know how to use spell check.  He may be fired.  I guess I may have been wrong.  I thought the cop arrested Gates because the cop wasn't a nice man and didn't understand the law.  The cop may have arrested Gates because Gates is black.  Either way, it's good to have this man outed as a racist and hopefully he loses his job.
