Just thought I'd pass this along, in case anyone wanted to try and work from the inside to make change:

New Hampshire Union Leader is looking for a Correspondent Reporter to cover the Hanover/Claremont area. This is a contract position, which does not offer any benefits. You must have your own digital camera, and 1-2 years of reporting experience. A background in police and government reporting is preferred. Earnings potential can be up to $1,000/week. Interested applicants may send a resume and some work samples to: John Toole, City Editor, Union Leader Corp. P.O. Box 9555 Manchester, NH 03108-9555, unionleader.jobs@gmail.com

Fixed it.

Lloyd Danforth

Fixed it?  Why don't you apply for it?

Kat Kanning

I think they'd have a problem with me.

Lloyd Danforth

Probably, but, you do have the experience including, reporting on police and government ;D
What a coup, if you got the job >:D

dalebert

Worse that could happen is they could say "no" or you could get fired later for being too honest.

A newspaper that's hiring?   :o

That's because the rats are jumping ship.  I worked for a large Vermont newspaper 2000 to 2006 - circulation dropped 25%, pay and benefit cuts, layoffs, back stabbing etc that goes with all that.

Dead tree news is having very tough time - fewer people want the bother of having to recycle all that pulp and pay increasing newspaper prices when they can get all the news they want (and from many different angles) online.

but people pick up free weeklies all over the place
I think they just don't want old news
