CLAREMONT, N.H. — The state of New Hampshire is guaranteeing part of a loan to the new owner of the Claremont Eagle Times newspaper.
Last Wednesday New Hampshire's Executive Council approved without debate the "working capital loan guarantee," which will be administered by the state's Business Finance Authority.

The Valley News of Lebanon says the authority and the state would be liable for $187,500 of a $250,000 loan from the Connecticut River Bank to the paper's owner, Eagle Printing....

Governments can't let newspapers die.

There is a number of obscure things that, by law, need to be posted for certain numbers of days in local news papers.   Home foreclosers, business fictitious names, probate, ending business, etc.

If papers didn't exist there is a lot of laws that would have to be rewritten.

typical government using irrational laws to prop up failed business models. Then the business still fail, so they have to give them money to prop up the irrational laws they've created.
