there's nothing wrong with believing no matter how old you are.

I disagree.

In that vein I've decided that if I'm around next Christmas, I'll apply for one of those mall santa jobs. If I get the job, maybe on black friday or whenever the line is really long, I'll stand up, rip off the costume, and announce on a megaphone that there is no santa.

Or... is that too radical for the radicals? Can you imagine people getting that upset over having their kids hear the truth?

Of course I can. Mostly because you would be being what is normally referred to as a "raging antisocial asshole".

Why is the reality of Santa Claus so important to you? Do you believe the tradition is so endangering children that you have the right to interfere in the parent-child relationship? Careful where that line of thought leads, because you know what the statists think about us and home-schooling...

And of course, you'd also be violating your employment contract, so I trust you'd refund the mall's money, plus compensate them for the lost revenue from photos and shopping when angry customers left.

Seriously, if you don't like someone's belief in some Airborne Pasta Being, unless they're imposing on you, just leave them alone.

William, we can tell children every day of the week that government is a farce.  No need to wait till Xmas and no funny suits.
A lifetime of belief in government is more damaging than believing in Santa for 5 or 6 years.

I respect all views on santa and christmas. However this is my first real year that i just said enough is enough. christmas is a religious holiday and its about family.Personally since i realized the catholic church and most other religions are a farce i dont participate but have no problem with others enjoying the holidays I just think its gotten to comercialized
as for believing in santa I was brought up in a very strict catholic home (just me and my Mom)but she wanted me to know it is wrong to lie unlesss it has to do with santa or the easter bunny. So is it right to lie about one thing and not another, I dont think so Its about money now and it it should be about family.
I'm still mad at my moher for lying to me for so long so i take religion and religious holidays with a grain of salt and to each his own personaly i would not tell my kids not to lie and lie to them when it is convenient  or religious.  Just my point of view  but their is no santa or easter bunny only trips to the mall and bullshit. hope no kids reade this. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion.

Simple. A = A. To deny reality is to take the first steps down a very dark path.

Interfere? Daring to speak the absolute, unequivocal undisputed truth out loud is interference? I shouldn't speak the truth because someone might get upset that I've exposed their lie? Careful where that line of thought leads.

Sure, but we all remember what it's like to find out that something we strongly believed in was false. Causes you to start questioning other things as well. When you take down Santa, a lot goes down with him and that's what people are really pissed off about. It's not just the Santa lie itself they're defending, it's that the kid will start taking a hard look at the rest of their bullshit and they can't have that. Next thing you know, he might question the authority of his parents, school, the government or religion. Oh the horrors!

Even simpler: It's not your path.

How is it not? If it weren't, you wouldn't need to devise such an elaborate plan to spring it on a crowd of kids.

Once again: what terrible immediate danger to children justifies your interference?

"Luke, you must face Darth Santa again"  :icon_santa:

...seriously, Santa is supposed to teach you that everyone lies to you. It's a critical lesson (though most people never quite get it).

Anyway, the Santa meme certainly exists... learn to use it. "Does it control your actions?"  "Yes, but it also obeys your commands..."
