United States Mint to Launch Franklin Pierce Presidential $1 Coin in Concord

The United States Mint will introduce a new $1 Coin on May 20, 2010, to honor Franklin Pierce, the Nation's 14th President.  The event will take place at 10 a.m. Eastern Time (ET) on the grounds of Pierce Manse, the former president's historic family home.  United States Mint Deputy Director Andrew Brunhart will be joined by Franklin Pierce University President James F. Birge and New Hampshire Historical Society Library Director Peter Wallner.

Immediately following the ceremony, the public can exchange their cash for 25-coin rolls of the Franklin Pierce $1 Coin at face value.  Each child 18 years old and younger will receive a new Franklin Pierce $1 Coin to commemorate the event.  The public and news media are invited.

The Franklin Pierce Presidential $1 Coin is the 14th release in the United States Mint Presidential $1 Coin Program, authorized by Public Law 109-145 (the Presidential Dollar Coin Act of 2005).  The Act directs the United States Mint to strike and issue four $1 coins each year featuring the images of our Nation's presidents in the order that they served in office.  The Franklin Pierce Presidential $1 Coin will be available at banks and financial institutions beginning May 20.
