what gets me really angry is repeatedly seeing either myself or my husband (whose time I feel I've partly donated to the FSP when I REALLY need his help on our house) on shit lists.  It's uncalled for.

Many of the people who post here don't vote Jane.? I don't know why.

It's a shame because I thought the FSP chose NH due to the accessibility of government: running for office, connecting with legislators who are your 'neighbors' and mine, and of course just the physical proximity and lack of red tape to get into the statehouse itself.

I don't see why we can't tolerate all methods of change, and that includes the normal avenues that Gorman uses, and the abnormal methods which basically raise awareness.

For example, did you know that right now our excellent Rep Barbara Hagan has several bills which will allow NH to drop many taxes for individuals and businesses? Instead of wasting time yapping our mouths off here, we should be contacting the other Reps she needs to support her in this effort. I monitor this board because I know there are many dedicated souls here who would jump at the chance to help.

One less tax might translate to more people for NH who can sustain the goal of reduction of government, which is the DIRECTION in which we want to be headed, n'est ce pas???

If you also want to give free manicures in your spare time, that's fine too. ?:D

Jane,
Some people joined the FSP to move to the Free State to be political activist and some non-political. ?Some, I'm pretty sure, moved just to live here and don't intend to be activists.
Some political members got upset because some non political got the FSP name involved in their activity, and the non political people got upset because of the criticism.
Few, if any, of these people do any recruiting.

This guy has some stuff wrong about the paid CEO thing. The FSP did want to pay the president (Amanda), but it never happend, as they never obtained the money.

OK a 501(c)4 must report earnings, but only if there are enough to report...

I don't see the benefit of paying someone like Amanda who has a full time job/is going to school as well. If you are going to pay someone to work in a basically 'volunteer' operation, then it had better be someone who can devote most of their time to the recruitment effort.
Seems that a PR person would be better.

It was never pay Amanda, it was pay the officers, and, suggested before Amanda was president.
It was pay for the president, and it was a FSP goal for 2004.
It was approved as a goal 02/15/04.....the same day Amanda became FSP president.

Mary Lou asked for this statement to be entered into the record:

? ? "For the record:Jason has asked me by email moments ago to make a statement 'Do you agree that the meeting is legal, or not?' Upon consideration, I have decided that I consider this meeting to be illegally called. A week means a full week, it was 8 hrs less than a full week. I consider that makes the legality questionable, particularly when it was set at a time that one BD member had indicated was impossible for her to attend. I spoke to this when Jason first called this meeting. There was no reason not to set the meeting at a time when all Board members could be present, particularly since the regular meeting was postponed at Jason's request to find a time when he could be present. I have therefore decided to NOT participate in this meeting, and consider any votes taken to be questionable, at best. I heartily recommend the meeting be re-called for the earliest time when ALL members can be present and questions of legality will not cloud the meeting."

A. Electing a President

? # Jason moved that Amanda Phillips be elected interim president and that the board needs to discuss the length of the term
? # Jean 2nd.
? # After discussion regarding the length of the term and removing the 'interim' portion of the title, Jason amended his initial motion to: "Elect Amanda Phillips president of the Free State Project for a term ending 12am on 16 August 2004.
? # Matt 2nd
? # After discussion, a motion to close discussion was made by Jason, 2nd by Jean, and agreed to with 3 in favor and 2 absent.
? # On the main motion, 3 were in favor, 2 absent. Motion passes.

B. High-Speed Internet Connection for President and Treasurer

? # Jason moved that the FSP offer free high-speed cable or dsl internet access to both the president and treasurer of the corporation.
? # Jean 2nd.
? # After discussion, a motion to close discussion was made by Jason, 2nd by Jean, and agreed to with 3 in favor and 2 absent.
? # On the main motion, vote was 3 in favor, 2 absent. Motion passes.

.....

F. Strategic Targets for 2004

? # Jason moved that the following strategic targets be adopted:

? ? ? ? * $40k, or half of cash raised this year, whichever is less, spent on publicity by the end of the year, including advertising, direct mail, sending speakers
? ? ? ? * $50K in the bank by the end of the year at the very latest (preferably by the end of June) to hire a full-time Prez at $50-$60K per year, maybe higher if we can get someone really good
? ? ? ? * A 501(c)(3) org is necessary to raise $90K by the end of the year
? ? ? ? * 7000 members by the end of 2004
? ? ? ? * a coast to coast local groups network, with every single member who has consented to distribution of his address info, etc. assigned to a group (they can choose whether or not to take advantage)
? ? ? ? * an automated member db with the ability of existing members to log in securely & edit their info, rendering most of Member Services' functions unneeded - by the end of April 2004 at the very latest

? # Matt 2nd
? # After discussion, a motion to close discussion was made by Jason, 2nd by Matt, and agreed to with 3 in favor and 2 absent.
? # On the main motion, vote was 3 in favor, 2 absent. Motion passes.

Isn't this about the time things started going down hill fast?

It was suggested and discussed on the forum long before 2004.

I'm sure making Amanda president was too.

But talk is just that....Talk. On 2/15/04 it was made a offical goal, and Amanda was made president.

Lloyd Danforth

The really funny thing was that she was made president not too long after they announced the next president would live in NH.
I'm not even sure what the Hell the president does, but, I would rather see as 'FSP Ambassador At Large', if she has the time, because I've seen her in action.

president

Jason said he was steping down as president at the oct. 1 2003 press conf., and one of the reasons he gave was so the FSP president would be based out of NH. At that time Amanda said she would be moving to NH within a year.

If we ever have a board we need to have el presidente be the secretary too. He is much better than the fsp guys at keeping track of meetings. ;)

ya, that Supreme Court thing is working out well...

<< what she and Eddie did or tried to do that demonstrates the superiority of elected members.>>

The thing they did that was superior was to submit themselves to election!

However I do like your idea about term limits, that might shake things up some.

Dada,

That's my problem with the elections argument, though--no one seems to be able to articulate anything better about the results.  If the current system is an evil, shouldn't it be replaced by a good?  And isn't it necessary to show that it is a good in that case?

And, funny, my problem with the Supreme Court is that it cares too much about what the people think.  It shouldn't even matter what the justices think.  Law is law.

Freetowncampground.com.....

Yeah, that page needs some work. ;-)

Sounds like a perfect mission statement to me. And I don't think it means economic rent. ;)

Is a martian always green? I am black and white, so what.  Why has someones race entered this thread.

That was my first thought, just like with curiosity over where Amanda's daughter lives.

Meanwhile, maybe Dawg should get in on the back-shaving thread.  ;D

Eli

This thread is starting to sound like a thread on the FSP board.  Kat, can you move it to endless whining?  It's why I don't go to that forum,  it's nothing but rabid infighting anymore, and hardly any info about getting to NH.
