We have been getting many inquirie's and question's this year in regard to Live Free or Die Rally. Some are not sure what it is, where it is located this year, why it was moved to the previous year's locations, food concessions and the donated property's usage, why certain groups or organizations aren't restricted from attending, why a sole groups or organization's doesn't host it, etc. These are some of the concerns & the answers to them:

WHAT IS LIVE FREE OR DIE RALLY?
LFOD is a non commercial venture, non partisan, non aligned, true first amendment demonstration gathering.
In brief; Authority's who represent a municipality in which the gatherings are to be held are given detailed notice of activity's which fall under first amendment protection with refusal of the submitter to sign permit application's that waive the submitter's protected first amendment rights subjecting the submitter to fee's, police detail, bonds, vending permit's, commercial event restriction's, ordinance's, etc.  Then, the gathering falls under protection and the municipality can be brought to court and subject to fines if the municipality refuse's to acknowledge  the written notice of the gathering or interfere's with participants of the gathering. Many will argue that they shouldn't even have to do this or notify anyone. LFOD chose's to. It protects the participants, enable's one to have gatherings on non commercial private or public property's and enable's  taking legal recourse if needed. If LFOD is going to blow off cannons, have 15 bands, fireworks, battle reenactment's,  or what have you, the nieghbor's as with the municipality's resident's, out of courtesy, have the right to know.

WHAT IS PROTECTED UNDER A TRUE FIRST AMENDMENT GATHERING?
*Gathering for redress, Speech, Music of redress & related amplification, Exhibiting and anything done by donation*
A) Non commercial gathering by free will IS protected. Any event charging or paying for table spots, charging admissions, charging for camping, vending for money, restricting who is  allowed or by selective invitation, paying for advertising, paying for venue, paying for entertainment, paying for speaker's, organization's or party's paying to host or sponsor, all as examples are commercial ventures and are NOT protected.
B) Music of redress by free will is the same as speaking in redress. Participants listening to that message of redress have the right to hear. If there's a 1000 people and amplification is required so all participants can hear the redress, it IS protected.
C) Vending for money is a commercial activity that is NOT protected. Vending by donation,  raising money for non profit cause's, benefit's are not a commercial activity's and IS protected.
D) The first amendment is specific in that the gathering be peaceable. Acts of violence, racism or these types of rancor defile the gatherings purpose and are not  welcomed at Live Free or Die Rally.

WHERE IS LFOD BEING HELD AND WHY WAS IT MOVED?
A) Each of the first three LFOD rally's were held on several donated private non commercial locations and public propertys. The 4th was held in its entirety at Grand View Inn which is a commercial venue. The 2010 LFOD rally is returning to the original location's with the addition of Silver Ranch as one of the 2010 locations. To avoid confusion participant's must read carefully the schedule & location's at the web sight.
B) Many participant's enjoyed Grand View Inn and we thank them for donating their facility in 2009. However many participant's preferred going into town (public) to exhibit, preferred the prior rallys location's and because of Grand View Inn's liquor licensing, which is not under first amendment protection, restricted participant's ability to BYOB otherwise the State could revoke the Grand View Inn's liquor license.

WHY ARE GENERATORS NOT ALLOWED OR  CAMPERS/EXHIBITORS NOT BEING PROVIDED ELECTRICITY?
A) The Common has a very small power box for the band's use only.
B) Old beautiful Dillon Lodge where the concerts are held has a small electric service big enough to provide power to Transit Audio Company for the Concerts and for area lighting and to run the well pumps. Generators are not wanted at the lodge due to interference with  music and exhibitors are not to be located there.
C) Sawyer's Field across the road from Dillon Lodge where camping and exhibitor spots will be located was graciously donated by a cow farmer with fair request that their be no generators or open fire's and that parking be limited to the campers and exhibitor's only. That's his hay field & he needs the hay for his cow's. We have a large parking area down the road near the Lodge for general parking.
D) The fabulous Silver Ranch Livery Field downtown was donated for the battle reenactment only and reenactor's exhibits only for Saturday August 28th from 3 - 6PM only. No alcohol or other exhibits are to be located there.

WHY ARE FOOD CONCESSION'S BEING LIMITED OR RESTRICTED?
A) Being a true first amendment gathering food vending for money converts LFOD into a commercial event compromising it's protection.
B) Food is donated by company's to the CAACP which is a non profit organization & it is served by donation at very reduced rates by volunteers to offset LFOD costs. Anyone wanting to donate their product and vend food by donation to go towards helping offset LFOD costs and help keep LFOD free is welcome to contact us.
C) What limited food concession spots that are available are booked months to a year in advance.
D) An individual who has a self contained refigerated truck that does not require power was booked for these reason's.
E) Another individual who will be supplying all cooking equipment & help distributing the food that also does not require power was booked for these same reasons.
F) Many individual's bring their own food to cook at the free grille's and condiments provided at Dillon Lodge.
G) There are unlimited non food exhibitor spots at both locations. See web sight for set up times & locations.

WHY IS ANYONE, IDEOLOGY, GROUP,ORGANIZATION, PUBLIC, RACE,RELIGION,PARTY, CANDIDATE, ETC. ALLOWED?
A) The first amendment was written for everyone regardless of their beliefs, thoughts or otherwise and have the right to attend. No one including myself should restrict that as it also compromise's a true first amendment gathering. Unlike many events, LFOD is not anyone's or any organization's gathering, it's everyone's equally on common ground. Many ideology's, organization's and individual's have their reason's who  should or should not be allowed which can lead to devisiveness, segregation, discrimination, bigotry which the media and elite prey on. I can only request participant's share in the tolerance and their support. If someone doesn't agree with a exhibit, individual, speaker or organization, move on to one they do enjoy.
B) LFOD has often come under fire due to this and likely always will. LFOD is not about anyone's particular belief's, it's about their right to express those belief's as with the individual standing next to them rights to express their belief's regardless of what they are or whether others agree with them or not.

WHY ARE THEIR RESTRICTION'S AT LFOD & LFOD LOCATION'S IF THIS IS A FREEDOM GATHERING?
A) These location's are graciously donated private property's for the cause or are on public property. Some will disagree, but, I feel the property's owner's request's were very reasonable and by no mean's restriction's or violating anyone's rights. I'm asking other's who share in the use of these property's for LFOD to respect their wish's and these property's too.
B) Unknown to many, though participant's are protected during LFOD, the property owners are not after participants vacate. If people break law's on their property's the authority's could potentially fine or prosecute the property owner whether we think its right or not. Please, let's not thank the property owner by having him prosecuted!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME & COOPERATION!

Ron Helwig

If y'all actually like this, then you should donate to it!

There's a chipin at http://www.myspace.com/caacp (Yes, its MySpace. It won't kill you to do it just this once.)

Heck, even $5 would help. I'm sure he can use volunteers too. (I'd be volunteering, but I'm going to be busy selling Shire Silver. I did donate, and I'm practically destitute these days.)

MOTORHOME'S & R.V.'s at LFOD, PLEASE NOTE:
We are getting a lot of request's for R.V. & Motorhome's reservations. Please note "Things To Know" at the web sight. Unlike the Grand View Inn field at the '09 Rally, Cow farmer's hay field (Sawyer's Field) is for camping in tent's only, no reservation required.  Small pop-up's or van conversion's are by reservation only where there are limited spots for them. There is a link at the web sight for local camp ground's that can accommodate R.V's & Motorhome's.
