Peaceful Assembly Church is dedicating a portion of it's property in Grafton, NH for a Peace Monument/Memorial...

We are looking for any info, ideas, and old threads about Peace Monument / Memorial to Victims of Government Violence.

New ideas welcome also.  ;)

The government folks seem to like deactivated artillery pieces for their war monuments.

Does that mean that a functional artillery piece would be a good peace monument? :)

In all seriousness, do you have a general idea of what you're looking for?  Modern or classical?  Immovable or portable?  Etc...

Thanks. Yes, we have some general (and specific) ideas but, lots of ideas have been floated around for years, and we want to sort of pull them all together, revisiting some of the older ideas, and inviting new ones before moving forward.

This idea is finally beginning to become a physical reality, as we now have a spot to build on.

Also - Suggestions for ground breaking day are welcome. I have a VERY strong bias as to which day that should be but, we need to consider other ideas as well. We will use several dates as milestones in the building of this site.

Also, the idea of making something portable has not yet been given enough thought here. Thanks for that reminder.

We (meaning Jim and Lauren) made a monument for the Kelo 7 at their place in New London.  I'm sure that one is gone.
The "7" should be included in the monument.

Heh, that was cool. :)

It's great you're doing this, John!

good and sad memories about that place .... you can even  see the old houses that the government turned into barren land

I like the rocks or bricks in memory of victims idea.

Hey everybody who were all those young people in that video?

John, I like the memorial idea, I will consult the Seal of Approval for inspiration / spiritual guidance and report back in with his thoughts.  His ceramic likeness is resting on one of the sacred smoking stumps somewhere in "Free Grafton".  Which reminds me, I still have to glue one of his flippers back on.

I have a name for you, if you do the rock idea, although I don't think you'll have any shortage of names.  :-\

moving forward.

I paid for "head stone" (5' X 16'' X 2'' bluestone) and it is on site.
plan is to set in "planter" at SW corner of parking lot - right next to road (Rt. 4) - very visible and accessible to passers by.
plaque will be updateable, (probably affixed with removable bolts) framed, laminated page with some basic info leading to interweb info.
painted rocks will be placed around headstone.

looking for voluteres to help with website work, plaque design, MORE IDEAS, and preparing and placing headstone, etc.

hoping to be well ahead of schedule - and just waiting for - dedication in late June.

I'll volunteer to help you move the stone around, but under no circumstances will I volutere and you can't make me!

good idea john.   i like the idea of it naming various victims of government aggression in new hampshire and being sort of a shrine to that.  the list ideally would be expandable.   that way it's sort of dynamic.
