Our horrible experience at the Rite Aid in Plymouth

So Rick, me, Jon, Brandie, and Ricky stopped in Rite Aid because I wanted to look at shampoo and hair conditioner and we had such bullshit happen to us on the way out!

Rick and I were reading bottles of hair stuff and Ricky was with us while Jon and Brandie were walking around and then they started bouncing a ball and somebody that worked there asked them to stop bouncing the ball.  Fine, no big deal, I understand and was about to tell them to stop it as they got closer to us and I heard the bouncing ball.

Okay, so then I hear "Security check in beauty aisles, #,#,#, (sorry, I can't remember the numbers), so I'm thinking that's weird because those were the aisles that I'm in but whatever let them do their stupid security check.

Jon, checks out and goes to leave with Brandie before I was done and I heard this guy that I saw hawking all of us since we came in, ask Jon to see his receipt before Jon and Brandie left. So then another lady came up to the front and asked them where the ball they were bouncing was and Brandie told her it was back in the same place they got it from. Jon also asked her if she was accusing him of stealing the ball. Then she told them to get her the ball or she was going to call the cops.  I didn't hear all of this because I was asking the cashier a question about a sale item so I found out she told them to get the ball, etc. after we got in the car. Brandie got the ball and gave it to the lady and they walked out.

So now, Rick, me, and Ricky are going to leave the store and the guy says to Ricky, " I see that you have a bulge in your pocket, can you take whatever you have in your pocket out?"   So Ricky took out his Invisalign case and his old pack of gum, then he asked Ricky to open the case so Rick took the case and said, "It's an Invisalign case, see the Invisalign written on it."    Well by this time Rick was pissed off and said to the guy, "Here, you want to see what's in the case so bad, you're going to look real close",  and basically put it right up to the guy's face.  Yeah, I know that wasn't the best move on Rick's part, but for goodness sake, this was getting to be ridiculous and sometimes emotions take over.

Now, the guy turns around to me and says, "We've been watching all of you since you walked into this store."  I said, "So, what", he preceded to say, "See all of these thin signs we have, they are all cameras".   I said, "Who cares about all of your stupid cameras, we weren't doing anything wrong so you can shove them up your ass."  He says, " We will be reviewing all of your activies and going over all of our survalance equipment." I said, "Have fun watching me read shampoo bottles and see if I ever come to this stupid store again."

Pretty much, we walked out and the guy and lady followed us out into the parking lot talking shit, I don't even know what they were saying but whatever it was it must have been pretty bad because they got flipped the bird by a couple of the kids.  So, I turned around and told them I go shopping there a lot and won't ever be back, the lady kept saying something like, have a good evening and we have this on camera too.  I'm like, "What, unreal, you make me sick and you can take your store and shove it, I don't care what you have to say anymore."

I don't know if we handled the situation correctly or if there is even a correct way to handle a situation like that.  I really think they are crazy and belong working as TSA people.  Little Ricky was crying and visibly shaken up by how the guy treated him, Jon, Rick, and Brandie are very angry and I'm just sitting here thinking, what the heck just happened and why.

At any rate, tomorrow I am going to definitely return every single item I purchased there but is there anything else I can say or do?  Is this the new way people are treated when they go into a store they've been to many times before without any problems.  I feel blown away by this, I mean I can understand the cashier asking the kids to stop bouncing the ball,  but besides that what did we do to be targeted?   Has this ever happened to anybody else and if so, did it make any sense to you?

Write to the company and complain.

I'm definitely going to write to the company and complain even though it will probably end up nowhere but it will make me feel a little better.  Ha, ha, I love your cockroach statement, great point.  :)

I wonder if they will have me arrested when I go back there tomorrow to return the items I purchased, what assholes, it really wouldn't surprise me.  >:(

Is it possible for creeps like this to erase their "wrongdoing" on their survalance equipment so that it only shows one side of the story?

It's possible for them to show commercials with long-dead folks endorsing modern products.  With enough computing power, nearly anything can be simulated.

It all depends upon how much editing would be necessary, when determining whether the particular individuals in question would be able to achieve it.

Okay, thanks.  I was just wondering because this entire ordeal has me totally paranoid and creeped out about survalance stuff and if jerks like this and everywhere else that we are being watched could twist things.  I doubt that anything like that is going to happen but I want to make the light shine on these cockroaches pretty bright, especially for seeing how upset my kids were and Ricky crying.

If you're concerned, you might want to do the returns at a different RiteAid, rather than the Plymouth one.

I already thought about that but I'd like to return everything to the Plymouth store and tell them why I'm returning all of it.  Unfortunately if the idiots call the cops, I'm pretty sure the cops won't be on my side.  ::)

So, I returned everything that I purchased at the same Rite Aid:

Rick and I walked in and the same rude lady manager from last night was at a register and that's the register that we went to because I wanted to get her name.  She looked at us and I wrote down her name off of her name tag, I was pleasant and told her that I had items to return, she became very nervous and I don't know why other than perhaps she knows how she treated us last night wasn't right.  She asked a new cashier to take care of us and went away, I had a feeling she was going to get the security guy from last night and yup, I was right.

So anyways, Rick said the security guy, (we figured that's who he has to be), watched us the entire time and Rick watched him however nothing was said and it went smooth and peacefully as we decided that's how we wanted it to go as it's the right thing to do.  The security guy hid behind a lottery machine and stared at us through the glass, Rick said.  I am definitely going to follow up on this by writing and calling the company as MaineShark suggested. :)

What really bothers me about all of this is the mentality, it really reminds me of the TSA articles that I read and some of their power crazed delusions and treatment of other human beings.  I really have to say, these kind of people scare me because their behavior is unpredictable and they are "cop callers", over every little thing.  As I think I already wrote last night, I'm pretty sure if the cops were called it wouldn't have went favorable for my family and it was all over nothing.  :(

You handled it well. Just be sure to follow up with the official complaint.

The stores that have the biggest problem with theft, are those that treat everyone like they're a thief. Honest people won't put up with it, and go elsewhere.

I see you already returned the stuff but just my 2 cents anyway...

I would definitely return to the same store because a return would hit against the sales of the store you return the items to.  The idea is the retailer should try to get you to exchange instead of return.

Secondly as someone who works at the corporate office for a retailer I would 100% recommend writing a strongly worded letter to their corporate address explaining what happened to you.  For security to hassle you they should have had proof positive that you took something before asking to see the contents of your pockets etc.  That behavior is completely unprofessional.

Even back when I was in high school and worked in a high crime area there were times the security guard had to just watch someone walk out the door they were positive had swiped things because they didn't have the proof to stop them.

I'll never go back to Rite Aid again..well, we never go there anyway.

Thanks!  :) I definitely will follow it up.  :)  The funny thing is that Brandie said they were nice to every single other customer that was there except for us.  I don't think I look like a shoplifter .  :dontknow:

Thanks Lildog. :)  Yeah, it was pretty messed up.  I read a lot of complaints online against various Rite Aid stores, quite a few were from employees complaining about working conditions and mean, lazy managers.
