Well, our Lady dog saved us the pain of making that trip to the vet. The recent cold spells were more than her 12 year old joints could take, and despite aspirin twice a day and lots of chicken broth, she decided she'd had enough. She's off to protect children and threaten pizza men in a different world.

She was  damn good dog.

I had to have put my dog to sleep earlier this year, so my heart goes out to you and your family

Thanks for the replies. And I'm sorry about your loss too, Don. I'm glad I didn't have to take her to the vet, but today would have been the day.

Mary's upset that we may be giving away our little foster dog tomorrow. She's been here long enough that we love her, and she loves Mary especially, but there's an elderly couple (very well screened!) taking a look at her tomorrow. If they decide against it, she'll be our dog for keeps. That will put us at two small dogs (terrier mix and shihtzu) and two medium dogs (border collie mix and standard poodle).

Critters do have a way of working their way into your life and heart.
