While growing up, we were told that in some "other counties" they have "evil" totalitarian dictatorships.

We were told that everything (from-cradle-to-grave) was regulated, and that their police would enforce even the most stupid laws. Those police, we were told, were not allowed to use their brains, and they would simply enforce any (any every) law handed to them. I think that may be where the nasty name "law enforcement officers" comes from.

Only "evil" governments, we were told, would encourage people to snitch out neighbors, friends, and even family. Under "those" totalitarian regimes, children were indoctrinated to turn in people "for their own good" - perhaps as in for "counseling" as mentioned in the Danbury story. I'm not sure if those "other" governments is where the "D.A.R.E. program" comes from or not.

We were told that "evil" totalitarian governments have jails full of people who harmed no one, but had committed "crimes against the state."

Thanks for the clarification.  It would seem that some cops do possess human emotions but ingested an extra large helping of cognitive dissonance when slurping at the government spiked trough.   

Those government spiked troughs are sort of like electric kool aid except Jimi Hendrix isn't playing in the background and nobody is feeling groovy.
