I can't quite imagine anarchy ever working for long.

Not without a significant shift in our morality, no, it won't.

I suppose that's why Thoreau said that when we are ready for it, there will be no government.

At the same time. "good minarchy government" doesn't work w/o a shift in morality either.

The history of the world has been one, long, continuous history of the immoral crushing the moral.  We have no reason to believe that would change under ANY system (government or no) unless the morality of people shift.

No. That was precisely my point.

True. But a system of anarchy is the most likely system that that sort of crushing will not happen -- being that in anarchy there isn't any official group of people w/ legitimatly more power then anybody else.

In anarchy any group of people who tried to do the same things government does would quite rightly be branded as criminal, meaning the immoral would have much less success.
