Maybe I was wrong about not having to succeed and I definately want to leave Corricupticut with the holier than thou Connecticut State Police barging into my house, threatening my brother and dad to sick his dog on them. I'm real wound up, basicly this cop just wanted to find something on my brother, he started out by tailing him for no reason WHICH HAS ALSO HAPPENED TO ME IN CT FOR NO REASON, he was not speeding or driving reckless, than he shined his spot light into his car on the highway while moving. My brother got mad at this and honked and proceeded home, the cop found out where we live off of his license plate and came to the house demanding my brother license while he was in the house! he also demanded to come in and my brother refused to let him in without a warrent when he then barged into the house and took him out, while I was sleeping about 30 feet away so I could be rested to go work for the army national guard tommorrow, i was to meet at an armory, enter with keys that i was privledged to have and take with a sergeant an army blazer up to northern connecticut to work, I called out of that already but I still have to meet and give him the keys, I'm going to have absolutely no sleep due to this family incident.

Wow.  :(  What can we do to help?  Did the guy arrest your brother?

Luckily after the cop barged into our house, demanded my brothers drivers license, threw my brother to the ground, handcuffed him and brought him to a room at the local police station and started to threaten to lock him up if he didn't get something out of him, he was trying to say he ran from him but he didn't and the police officer never even turned on his siren or lightbar, the state trooper was all beligerent and paranoid and claiming he may of had a gun. My brother unfortunately is a democrat and doesn't even like weapons, I'm the only one in the house with weapons and I'm trained from the army. Oh so after the cop did all that and got absolutely nothing from interrogating he wrote him up for a misdeamnor of reckless driving which I looked up the state law and it is only for exceeding 85 mph and he never did that never ran never sped AND HIS JEEP CHEROKEE CAN'T GO OVER 85. Not that I would know from personal experience. I can't believe how insulting and crazed the connecticut state police were, I'm glad my dad called the local police ,who were professional, and the state pig calmed down and stopped threaten to arrest and sick his cop dog on my dad.

That's insane!  How can they get away with that crap??

Connecticut is a crooked state, Rowland just got out of jail is one example and the state police are notorious for corruption. The head of the state police was kicked out when Rowland got busted cause they were up to no good. I'm going to go to work and see if I have to stay, this lack of sleep and all that happening I'm not going to be able to get much done but I may give it a try I don't know. After this I'm even more convinced to move up to NH, I did sign the pledge and was planning to before the 20k but now I couldn't believe that happened I was always reading about it happening to other people, I know it was my brother who got arrested, but I did get woken up at 2am and went outside to see my dad asking why the state trooper barged in without a warrent and about the troopers erratic behavior and then the trooper started to threaten to arrest my dad and said he would sick his dog on my dad! It's so fucked up, just imagine what the founding fathers would of done to that so called public servant.

Kat Kanning

Wow.  So is your brother out now?

Let us know if we can help with your move in any way.

Russell Kanning

Time to escape and enjoy the police in NH........well we will have to work on them too.

I am sorry for you and your brother's predicament. I am very glad you found us and will consider joining us in NH. We can't guarantee those things don't happen here, but you won't be alone.

I'm glad we didn't lose you after surprising you with secession talk. Maybe we all can move outside (of the secession board and into the general forum). We are liberty lovers and protectors, but within that, quite diverse.

We're going to meet with a lawyer and see what we can do. My brothers fine, it's crazy that after all that all he got was a misdemeanor traffic violation. I'd like to come on up and visit some time, I was planning on attending the Porcfest but thats a little bit off, are there any activities going on before that?

Kat Kanning

If you keep an eye on the calendar here, you can find some stuff going on.  Or if you just want to visit, let us know and we'll have a party for you so you can meet people.  There are four porcupine meetings a month which always have a lot of people.  You might could get a ride from some of the CT people when they come up, even.

Full disclosure: my father was a CT state cop for 21 years before we moved to NH, he was at Troop C in Tolland.

NH cops are a TAD tamer than CT cops... they don't have the strong union that CT cops have. For instance cars up here are all marked and you'll never see them without lightracks, where in CT it is the norm that a state car will be a regular old crown vic, you can tell if it's a cop car because of the light plug on the roof. Also NH towns have more local cops than do CT towns, so the state police aren't usually the ones running radar, the town cops are, and they're also bigger jerks, IMO, but since they are managed by the townspeople, have to be kinder to us. I moved from a town of 9000 in CT with no local cops to a town of 700 in NH with a local dept (the state police dept is also in my town, but I rarely see them).

Just a few observations.

I'm in the army guard and had to make up a drill yesterday after this happened and I was telling a friend about it over my cell phone while I was driving with an army sergeant I was working with. After I get off the phone we talk about it and then he shows me his badge :) He's a federal officer, he can't do anything about it, but he told me that even he thinks that all the state police have major attitude problems and that his fellow federal officers always joke about how bad the state police are. I just thought that was kind of funny and wanted to share.
