QuoteSo it is ok to outsource call centers?

why does a local business, doing business locally need a call center?

yesterday we had purchased a bag of local apples from the local food coop that when we got home were not the best quality.

so we called up the manager who we know personally and made her aware of the problem...she said "no problem bring them back we will exchange them".

nothing out of the ordinary since I am a part owner of the business and vote for the manager at the annual meeting.

Knowledge is transferred.  Money sometimes exchanges hands.

So it is ok to outsource call centers?

Look at Tracy he works at a call center in SD.  That was probably in something like NJ before.  Why did they move to SD?  Because it is cheaper.  Hell Jet Blue has like 90% of the call center people working from home.  It is a new technology and we will use it to the best(or worse) of our ability.

Essurence, my now-former employer, is based out of California.

The reason all their customer service/ sales, etc goes through SD, is because labor is cheeper. They pay they're employees $11/hour, which is really competitive wages for South Dakota. But in the end that saves them hundreads of thousands of dollars because if they were in CA to be competitive they'd probably need to pay at least twice that.

In principle whats the difference between a call center moving to a rual area where labor is cheeper, and going overseas to India where labor is cheeper. It seems to me if these people would be consistant, they would believe the CA should make putting a call center in SD illegal.

At Midco (my current full-time employment) half of our clients are from the east coast -- again, where labor is really expensive compaired to SD.  Should our callcenter be outlawed because it "crosses state lines." State, being a political subdivision.

No? Then, I really don't understand the argument that informational labor shouldn't cross country lines. The arguments are exactly the same.

I hope those apples were grown in NH.
Do you like bananas?  My kids love them.  Do you know any NH banana farmers? Or how about avacados?

apples were local.

bananas and avacados are subsidized via the highway system and using the sky as a pollution sink.
