There are already projects going in Wyoming, Montana, and, to lesser extents, Idaho and New Mexico.  If we are eventually going to have two or more free states, should we start considering other states right now?  Should those individuals who are or want to be part of a project have official support for their state projects?

Also, there are small countries near the US (like Barbados or Belize) that are completely independent of the US Government.  Libertarians (and other downsizers) could have much greater effect on national and international policies on a separate country.  That is, national tax rates, trade policy, bankruptcy, drug policy, immigration, passports, patents, copyrights, currency, securities rules, banking privacy, etc...  even the national motto, "You can do pretty much whatever you want, as long as you don't hurt anybody." National defense, international treaties, even our policy of neutrality could be followed more effectively.

What do you think, and where would you want to live?

Max, trust me.  There is no one in this world who hates Ice and Snow and Cold more than me.  I could be sound as a pound living in Belize.  But we need to make the FSP work, not divide and conquer it.

I'm not thrilled about moving somewhere colder than Chicago, especially since I'm originally from the south.

But, I'm willing to make that sacrifice to try and bring back liberty to at least one state, if not the whole country.

Dividing the project now would only dillute it, and has (in my opinion) a greater chance of failure. United we stand, and all that.

I'm getting a little tired of these clowns who are not in NH doing anything suggesting other states and countries.

Caleb

speaking of which, Lloyd ... when are you scheduled to move to NH?  ;D  ;)

Lloyd Danforth

Don't know, been think'in about Belize :P

Middle, end of April.  Maybe sooner.

Fluff and Stuff

I think alternative FSPs are great.  However, We have very limited time and I am certainly not going to use my limited time and resources on another FSP project.  Clearly, NH is a better FSP than any other state.  This was researched and voted on and 100s of people have moved to NH.  There is more energy pushing for the NH FSP movement than all other FS and FN movements combined.  Clearly, the majority of the pro-freedom people in the world think NH is the best place to be.  If others disagree, great; but, let them work for their likely failed plans.  We are hardly moving anything in NH and we have 1000s of people working on the FSP and related actions.  If we free NH; then I will work towards freeing another state or nation.  Until then, I will continue to work towards something useful- freedom in our lifetime in the place that the vast majority of freedom activists agree on.

The whole point of The Free State project is to get everyone to move to one place. Why not just declare every state a destination of the free state project and tell everyone to stay where they are? ::)

Um I bet I hate Snow and Ice just as much if not more.

Because even five or six small states would confine us to less than ten million people.  Here's the problem: in the last few months, the number of people signing up has slowed to a trickle.  Worse, the number of people moving in has stayed at a few per month.  Once that last group of excited people overcome the obstacles that keep them from moving in, we will have perhaps 1,000 FSPers in state.  Consensus is now building around my original supposition that the vast majority of our volunteers will come from in state.  Why it has taken more than two years to realize what I knew before I even made the move is simple: libertarians do not understand politics.  The few who do have gotten elected to something already.

The vast majority of potential volunteers are just volunteers, not nail eaters.  Just like any other pyramid, we had a few people (like myself) who dropped everything to come here as soon as the votes were tallied, followed by hundreds more who will eventually move.  You have far more people who would make a small move and dedicate countless hours making a state project work.

What do we do with the folks I run into while out of state who would love to move, but not to New Hampshire?

1) Sell them on how great NH is. Being surrounded by traditional conservatives (both Democrat and Republican) in the South, I had to open a few eyes among friends who automatically equate New England with "liberal yankee".

2) Encourage them to work hard in their own state and their own organizations. When they express frustration that there aren't any, tell them about all the groups in NH that are so active.

3) Stay in touch. When they give up on their state, they need to know that NH is still a great option.

NH is warmer than Chicago ...... you would have to move to MT or WY to get colder.

Why would I spend my time promoting another place? NH is good enough for the idea of concentrating.

Live wherever you like, and please work for freedom while you're there.

The FSP is a project designed to get people who want to work for freedom all in the same area.

I'd reccommend one of the south eastern states if you want to move somewhere else.
