Interesting, I renewed my license the other day, and for checking the box that demands they remove my digital image from their database, the clerk made sure to tell me if I want to renew it in 5 years, I'd have to bring a birth certificate with me.   Something tells me this will become a pain later when they arbitrarily decide which BC's are legal and which aren't (i.e. I'm old enough that mine doesn't have SSN, finger/foot print etc.).

Yeah that is something that will become interesting.  I wonder what will happen if you don't 'have' your BC but you have a valid NHDL?

I believe this is what cause Alabama to scrap thier document verification program. Older drivers with valid DLs created an uproar when asked to provide birth certificates that show more information than older birth records show.

The clock is ticking.   We are going to need to have an infrastructure in place soon that will support drivers who lack a DL, because pretty soon the damn thing is going to be a virtual mark of the beat.

I think Judd Greg's suggestion that all medicines (and maybe even foods) be kept behind a locked door only accessible to a trusted (perhaps government?) employee who will check the National ID of the buyer, maybe implanted under the wrist for easy access without an employee "middleman" (could be a terrorist, you never know)... that really constitutes the Mark of the beast.
