There is a balance that responsible parents find between fostering independent thinking and teaching them right from wrong.  A child left to make his or her own decisions without proper guidance will not mature into a responsible adult.

I say put pedophiles in jail and throw away the key. I simply cannot understand the tolerance that many free staters seem to have for adults having sex with children. New Hampshire's children do not need a lot of perverts moving in.

An 18 year old having sex with a 17 year old would be a case of an "adult" having sex with a "child" since one is over the age of consent and the other is not.

Where to draw that line is the question.

I doubt anyone will say its right for a 50 something to have sex with a 12 year old.  But yet if a 40 year old guy gets a 22 year old girl friend everyone says "lucky dog".  Same age difference so why is one case ok and the other not?  What's the line?

Mental maturity is somehow expected to be there once you hit 18.  That?s the line and hence the problem because I know 15 year olds who are far more mature then some 30 year olds.

Yes, I think we should ban perverts from moving to New Hampshire. Then we won't even have to watch our children at all. While we're at it why don't we ban murders and rapists and drug users.

That's crazy. Keep a close eye on your children no matter what kind of state or neighborhood you live in.

Obviously a ban would not be workable, and I did not suggest one. The fact remains that New Hampshire's children do not need a lot of perverts moving in. I can only hope that Free Staters those who come here to exercise their "freedom" to seduce 15 year olds will find an angry parent or two at the other end of a gun.

I sincerly hope that you misunderstood my point. For otherwise you just shattered my last hope for liberty.

I just want to make one thing clear before I leave: I have no sexual intrests whatsoever in children. I am happily married and don't even think about cheating on my wife. Not even with an adult, let alone with a minor.

That's a relief. Maybe I'm too egocentric to take everything on me 

I've skimmed the thread again. I don't think anybody was even close to advocating pedophilia. As for me I'm not concerned about the "rights" of adults but about the rights of alledged children (aged 15+). I hope to have children myself one day and I don't want them to be treated like animals when they have full self-awareness. But that point probably is uncontroversial as well.

I hope you believe me when I say I'm not a bad person.

Personally, I can't imagine how an adult could even spend time with most teens let alone have sex with them.  I just don't want to see those who do thrown in jail for a consensual act.  I think the angry parent with a weapon is what they should be concerned with.
