I see where you're coming from, but voting doesn't confer a direct benefit.  I question any program where the government says in effect, "Hey, just sign this paperwork, and we'll give you protections!"

Thanks but no thanks.  I don't really want to be subject to more of their rules.

tracysaboe

Everybody's got to do their own thing. I'd prefer not to have the government able to track me even more with more paper-trails.

I don't think you need to be incorporated for your car to be registered in MT and yet live and be insured in NH. ANy other state it would be against regulations, but in NH since INsurence isn't required I don't think they have all those rules like many other states do.

I could be wrong. But I thought Kat was already doing this, and they aren't incorporated.

That's not a good indication of whether it's legal or not, Tracy ;)

*pssst*... hey you... yeah, you, over there, being a NH resident an' all... Wanna save some taxes and fees? I've got a solution fer yous. Incorporate. Pick a tax free state like Nevada, or a cheap vehicle state like Montana. Register yer vehicles there, in your corporate name.

And, vee-oh-lah. No worries about paying 18 mills to yer Noo Hampshah town. Yous veehickles is registurd to yers coipitations in annudder state, sohs ya pays whuddever that state sez you pay.

Simple, hey?

According to the article, Nevada has one of the heaviest costs in taxes and whatnot for buying a vehicle

Russell Kanning

If anyone is crunching the numbers, NH is probably going to be cheaper than where you are at. Put away the calculator and get in your car and move here.

Geezer

What in hell do you have?
My town taxes for 2005 were 452.00 thats for Three motor vehicles and two trailers, one a 2003 5th wheel and a 20005 utility
MV's are 1994 1500 silverado, 97 S10 4wd, 93 Subaru outback.

These would have cost me over 2 K in MA

Well, that really wasn't what I was asking.

Hi Everyone,
Thank you all so much for your advice and thoughts on this subject.
We have a 2003 Ford Windstar and a 1997 Ford Ranger. Maybe they gave my husband a high estimate, I don't know, he just walked out when he heard it and came home and said F**K this !  But we still have to do it, the whole incorporating thing I don't understand, it sounds like (and I could be wrong because as I said I don't fully understand it) you would have to fill out more papers and pay some $$ for that too and we have a month to register so I don't know how long the incorporating process takes.
When we go to the town clerk Monday I will post and let everyone know what happens, if you want to know.  I still might sell or trade in my Windstar for a smaller car because that thing is a gas guzzler and I don't have all my family with me so I don't need such a big vehicle anymore. I have to find a good deal and see what I can do about the minivan by Monday.
Thanks and I'll keep you posted!
Here is a totally important question, that is driving me crazy! How do you add one of those smiley faces to your text?

Kat Kanning

Just click on one of the little smileys above the post textbox.  If you click on [more] there's a ton of them you can click on to add them to your post.

Russell Kanning

Maybe they spend $18000/student in your town like the Ricks in Wentworth.

d_goddard

BTW, if taxes are your personal most important hot-button issue, I suggest moving to Derry.

Incorporating comes with many other legal benefits. For instance you don't need permission from local police chiefs to buy NFA weapons like machine guns and sawed off shotguns.

What?

When individuals want to buy an NFA item, the paperwork must be signed off on by the "chief law enforcement officer" where they live. In some locales, the CLEO refuses to sign, effectively banning NFA ownership. If a corporation (even a corporation of a single person) wants to buy an NFA item, there is no requirement for the CLEO to sign off on it.
