What is the status of FAX compatibility?

Good question. Plug in a fax machine and find out. :)

In order to provide better support for sending faxes, for those who want them, I'm going to begin offering the Cisco/Linksys SPA2102 telephone adapter. The cost is $65.

This device provides better support for sending faxes including the T.38 protocol. (This protocol is about the only reliable way of sending a fax across a VoIP network.) If you intend to receive faxes, though, I strongly suggest a dedicated fax line, so that I can make sure you get T.38 both directions. Otherwise receiving faxes will go back to pass-through mode and will be hit or miss, mostly miss, as with most other VoIP providers.

I should have the first boxes available within the next week or two if you want to preorder one.

I only need to send faxes.  Do I need to get this new box?

I think I can make it work about half the time with the box you've got now. That's about as good as it will get. I'm not going to do it NOW, since some people like to make calls in the middle of the day... :)

I ready to get on your VOIP network--what do you need from me?

Uh, money? I also need to give you a box, and at the moment I'm out of boxes.

ancapagency

How much do you need?

Not a big hurry--I've still got another 30 days on my skype account.

I have some boxes on order now and they should be here by the end of the week. PM me with your ratecenter and I'll get things started and get you more details.

The system is going to be intermittently unavailable from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. tonight while I complete software upgrades. In addition to addressing security issues, these upgrades should help with some intermittent audio problems users have reported.

In other news, I'm having a lot of trouble sourcing the SPA-2102 at the $65 price point, so I will have to charge $75 for this item (my actual cost) until further notice. The Linksys PAP2 that some of you have has been discontinued and while I can probably still get some of them, and they'll continue to be supported, the SPA-2102 has some extra features (like a built-in router) that make it much more attractive.

(Edit: There are two models of the PAP2. One has blue lights and the other has green lights. It is the one with blue lights that has been discontinued. The one with green lights is still supported. In the event one needs to be replaced, it will be replaced by the one with green lights.)

P.S. While the SPA-2102 price has gone up temporarily, I have lower prices on many other VoIP boxes.

VoIP adapters (New lower prices!):
Cisco/Linksys PAP2 $60 (2 physical line VoIP adapter, for existing home networks)
New! Cisco/Linksys SPA-2102 $75 $70 (2 physical line VoIP adapter, includes broadband router and QoS settings, for existing home networks)
Cisco/Linksys RTP300 $110 $95 $80 (2 physical line VoIP adapter, includes broadband router, 4-port Ethernet switch and QoS settings)
Cisco/Linksys WRTP54G $140 $110 (2 physical line VoIP adapter, includes broadband router, 802.11b/g wireless, 4-port Ethernet switch and QoS settings)
New! Cisco/Linksys WIP330 $350 $225 (802.11b/g wireless IP portable phone, compatible with home Wi-Fi and most hotspots, web browser)

You can always find the latest info on the forum thread at NH Tea Party.

Due to unforeseen difficulties this maintenance window has been extended to 7 a.m. Further information to follow.

The aforementioned software upgrade has failed and circumstances necessitate completely restoring the server from backup. This may take several hours and it may be noon or later before service is restored. (I'll provide a more precise time when I can estimate it.)

If you are expecting an important incoming call, please PM me and provide a number, e.g. for a wireless phone, and I will ensure that your calls are forwarded to that number until normal service is restored.

Based in part on this experience I am planning to move to multiple redundant servers as soon as it is practical to do so. One of the things I discovered is that the current server resides on a network which is congested during the day, causing audio cutouts for calls made during business hours. This move should happen within the next two weeks.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Update: Restore is in progress and full service should be restored sometime around 9 am.

Cool :)  We wondered why the phone wasn't working.  Thanks, error!

OK, maybe not by 9 am. Noon might be more like it, again. :(

I want to sleep...
