why don't the non-violent, non-cooperative, civil dis-obedience folks try and actively negotiate a settlement between the two parties?

How would you propose doing this? I think your idea is good, but how would/could it be implemented? BTW, don't forget the alternative institutions, guys. We must be as independent as possible here.

Good luck convincing him of that.  This man will stick it out as long as he can.  He's got my support.

Indeed, trying to make those arguments in court could prove to be difficult.  Ed certainly wasn't allowed to make ANY reasonable arguments in court.  The kangaroos hopping around wouldn't let him speak :P
