General 'attitude' of NH's population toward new residents that are GLBT...

I'm a NH native and toowm said it well.  In the northern NH town where I grew up, there was a transsexual (or maybe a transitioning transgender)...whatever the terminology is...we didn't have a word to describe him/her, and s/he really stood out since s/he was the most masculine looking female you could ever imagine.  But, no one ever said a word about it, and s/he went about day-to-day living without any extra attention being paid.

That said, I still think you'd find a university town the most accepting -- like Hanover or Durham.

Dude! You're from Kansas? I'm from Kansas! You should totally move :)

And don't bother about Fred Phelps. He's not an example of how Kansans are. He's just a psycho-crazy nutcase.

I can give you my 'attitude' and that is that I think whatever you do with your life and it's not hurting anyone is your own business, not anyone elses.
I used to feel differently when I was younger and I'd make fun of anyone that I thought wasn't "normal". Life has taken me down so many twisty roads and I've been receptive to learning and growing from so many of my own situations that I no longer laugh at anyone unless they're telling me a good joke.
I also don't have any thoughts or judgements on what "normal" is anymore because that is a word that society uses and I don't classify myself with society anymore, I am me and you are you.
Life is hard enough for all of us (I feel), why make it harder.
So anyways there you go; my thoughts on your question.  I'd put a darn smiley at the end of this if I could, my entire post gets erased when I use the smileys now.  Big Smiley!

Ditto to Rainey.

Long before the invasion of the blue staters, NH's good old fashioned plain folks, farmers and all, were the best example of the "leave me alone" state.

I don't think you will have any problems.

Changes in latitude, changes in attitude....

That should be our motto.

I would put a smiley, but Rainey did something to ruin it for the rest of us. Ha Ha

I knew I'd take the rap for it! :angel4:

Bridget,  Last Sunday, when I went into Keene High School to take a peek at Hillary,  I noticed a wall covered with Gravestones acknowledging the dangers  of intolerance of people towards Transgender people.
So, I'm guessing if it isn't part of the curriculum it is, at least, discussed at Keene High.

Rosie beat me to it.  I know of one gay person, a porc.  He seems to be very open about it and no one that I know of has made it an issue.  The larger cities will always be more friendly to minority groups simply because you will be able to find friends and allies.   :)

CNHT

Besides which, you will be more aligned to those who favor LESS GOVERNMENT no matter what their sexual orientation is.

Some might be liberals and you will clash with them on that....

So this can only be good in showing people that the liberals are not just the ones supposedly looking out for minorities and little people.

The further north that you go will determine the amount of resistance you'll likely encounter :) Southern NH tends to be more tolerant than northern NH, from my experience.

I would not say that at all. I have not seen this?

This is the exact opposite of my experience.  The southern part of the state is being infected by attitudes from other states, which means more frat-boy, NASCAR-style intolerance.  I work at the shooting range in Manchester, and we are having to shut down such loudmouths more often in the past couple years (every customer receives the same decent level of treatment there, by strict policy).

Northern NH remains much more traditional, which means "you mind your business and I'll mind mine."  If you encounter something different, you are probably in North Conway or similar, dealing with tourists.

Exactly! The 'old time NHerites' are the 'leave me alone' type.....just the type most of us model ourselves after.

I stand corrected

Well if you see any problems anywhere, let us know. :-)

I'm on air right now and have Ed's ear, so if you have questions about town meetings, let em rip!
