Standing up to officious bureaucrats? Watch out, the thugs have a new weapon at their disposal: a multiple-shot Taser.

TASER unveils non-lethal riot weapon

CHICAGO, July 9 (UPI) --  A multi-shot TASER weapon will boost riot-control capabilities in the United States by controlling the streets through non-lethal means.

The 6-shot Shockwave is designed for military use and can launch multiple electric-shock prongs that will disable even the most determined protesters.

"The TASER Shockwave addresses the need for enhanced area denial and force protection at checkpoints where life-and-death decisions must be made instantaneously," CEO Rick Smith said Monday at the TASER Tactical Conference in Chicago.

The TASER is standard equipment for nearly every U.S. police force. The gun-like device fires a dart into a suspect that delivers a shock that can incapacitate the person long enough for police to swarm in and slap the cuffs on.

Smith said in a statement that Shockwave was the result of a program to develop a more robust version of the technology for use by the military and homeland security sectors. The company recently unveiled a wireless TASER that can be fired from a standard law-enforcement shotgun and is also working on a TASER-firing robot that can wade into crowds while operators remain at a safe distance.

Shockwave can launch TASER darts up to 25 feet in a 22-degree arc. The darts are contained in portable modular units that allow rapid reloading and can also be mounted on a vehicle.

"Shockwave is designed to be a fully modular system, allowing the end user complete flexibility to deploy as needed to achieve the desired objective,'' said Smith. "Units can be stacked side by side, vertically, or can be 'daisy-chained' together in limitless combinations to allow an optimized response for every deployment."

They just outright say its intended to be used on protesters.

kola

solution:

protestors need to start using taser proof materials. (plastics, thin metals, helmets, face shields etc)

motocross outfits are very good with their plastic protective equipment and such.

shoot away boys...bink! bink!.

What if one of those darts catches someone in the eyeball or in the temple?  :-\

I'm still for forming a armed security force to protect peaceful demonstrations from those who bring violence to them.

Yes, and where state permits protesters need to simply open carry when protesting. Like the bumber sticker says, "Freedom - it's the law!"

Taser products are more accurately described as "less lethal" weapons; Tasers do kill people, but Taser and the departments that buy / use them downplay these deaths because it interferes with profits and new toys, respectively.

More accurately, Tasers don't kill people, but they have been a contributing factor in some deaths. Mostly when the person is already at extreme risk for a heart attack because of meth or other stimulants.

That said, there's no doubt that Tasers are abused. They are intended to replace "laying on of hands", and provide a safer alternative to everyone involved, but they are regularly used when an officer would not go "hands-on" if he didn't have the Taser option.

Did they make you "ride" the Taser to qualify to carry one in prison?  The sheriff's (corrections) deputies I've talked to have all had to, and claim that it is a better overall experience than the various sprays (because they come back to haunt you for the next 24 to 48 hours, while the pain of the Taser stops when the charge stops).

or when your heart stops.  There was a guy who was handcuffed to a wall and tazer'ed twice.   I wonder why someone already subdued needs to be subdued multiple times.  Always wondered.  Since I started reading this forum, watching cops has never quite been the same.  Tonight, an 80 something year old guy gets tackled for carrying an unloaded air rifle down the street with some other things.  Seemed a little out of it, but didn't seem to be doing anything to hurt anyone.  All of a sudden the guy is in the car and they're yelling off camera asking if he urinated himself and starting a little theory powwow about where he "stole the stuff" . . .

as for the multi-tazer. . . . wonder how many tax dollars went to create this new weapon.

Supplying the police state with its implements of oppression is profitable, if immoral.

We don't have them.
