I like how the FTL BBS is more juvenile and plebeian, and how this BBS is more mature and community-oriented and to-the-point.  Choice is good.  Let people vote with their feet, no censorship required.  I do appreciate the "NSFW" label in topic subjects though, because I do sometimes browse from work.

While you can turn off signature pictures, you can also ignore any user on the FTL BBS.  Problem solved!

This made my decision much easier. In my opinion, pandering to the juvenile element on the BBS is simply going to reduce the overall quality of the BBS even further. As a participant of the FTL BBS, I am finished. I won't read or post anything further aside from any administrative stuff that might arise. Consider the FTL BBS ostracized.

(Though if something breaks, I'll certainly fix it.)

I for one never complained about the large collection of morons on the BBS because I was pretty sure it wouldn't do any good, it being a "virtually unmoderated" board.

But hardcore porn without warning crosses the line for many people. But for me it's not just the porn. Reading the FTL BBS lately has become a lot like listening to those pathetic prank callers. Nonstop. For hours at a time. It got old long ago and it has gotten to the point where I might read one thread in 50, and half the time still have to wade through (or ignore) dozens of inane stupid pathetic posts.

Unfortunately, just ignoring the problem users isn't sufficient, since there are a large number of other people who will quote them in their entirety. And if you ignore them as well, pretty soon you've got a significant number of the active users on the BBS ignored, and the threads get even less coherent (if that's even possible).

Oh, and ignore doesn't work with one of the themes somebody asked for a while back. Nothing I can do about it; I already tried.

So that's where I am with my own personal use of the FTL BBS. But it's your board and I'll uphold your rules.

The only time I've ventured onto the FTL BBS in the last 2+ years, was to read the dust-up about Mark's past. (It didn't change my opinion of him, BTW.)

I've given it several valiant tries, but the overall tone of the forum reminds me of Freepers, without as much restraint and maturity. And that's no reflection on FTL, Ian, nor Mark. It is what it is. And if it's helping bring liberty lovers to NH, then hallelujah!

I like the FTL BBS because it's juvenile! I can log in there and just fuck around. On NHFree, I inevitably wind up with (self-assigned and wholly voluntary) action items. It is very simple: NHFree is about activism; FTL is about entertainment.

Complainers:  Quit your bitching, and click ignore.  Consider letting people know that you're ignoring them.

Ian, the problem is not that my screen shows boobies or genitals. I have an office with a door at work; and I work from home a lot of the time anyway.

The problem is that my web browser is making GET request from URLs like "assporno.com". Hitting "Ignore" does prevent further requests, but I'm sure a red flag goes off somewhere, you know?
It's not like the Oracle Nazis are going to interrogate me for 2-3 such hits (hey everybody get it accidentally once in a awhile), but I know you understand, it's just not very professional.

I am NOT boycotting or leaving the FTL BBS.
Rather, I am only able to visit it very infrequently now.

This is no social crisis... it's just another tricky day, for you.

Sorry, but I just left because the immaturity of the posters is getting way out of hand. Short of disabling the default features (which I would suggest to IAN to make the default feature for all new accounts avatars and sigs off to protect yourself from further potential legal issues of liability and etc) of the forum, which  really makes it annoying to read as well, since you really don't know who's posting what if you're use to seeing avatars instead of pure text (just a personal preference, but not essential). Ultimately, this is more of an issue that the show's reputation may be marred by its forum members, which will make your job harder, not easier, in gaining more stations, and what not. One forum goer was concerned that I wasn't coming to NH due to this. Not really, I'll be coming when I finally finish this damn degree of mine. But who I feel for the most has to be folks like Keti, who try their hardest to get their points across in a mature manner, which even he's getting flack for his opinion about the immaturity of the FTL forum. Ian, if it gets too complicated to handle, there is the delete button on it, and I wouldn't be shy about stating that option unless I knew the forum was degrading rapidly (as a former MUD admin, sometimes the @nuke option is good).
