I'm posting this in case I receive any retribution of ANY kind over this event I will post it on this thread and  consider it a matter of public record.

There was a suit banging hard on the front porch door across the street. I figured it was a detective. He was hitting the door too hard to be a Jehova's Witness. Then I saw him put his face against the window next to the door and cup his hands around his eyes to see better. Then I watched him reach in and unlatch the door and start to go in.

I yelled across the street as I headed towards towards him WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?

Knocking on the door.

I see you're knocking on the door, why did you just let yourself into their house?

I didn't let myself into the house.

I just saw you reach in and unlatch the door.

I'm going to ring the doorbell.

No you're not. If you want to ring the doorbell go around to the back door. You DO NOT let yourself into people's houses.

I'm a detective. Here's my badge and here's my card. (pulling back his coat to expose his badge and gun as he fumbles for the business card I didn't take)

I don't care if you've got a badge and a card you don't let yourself into people's houses.

I was just going to ring the doorbell.

Then go to the back door. (pointing at the back door)

I walked back across the street. He made half a dozen trips back door to front door banging the crap out of the doors. No one answered then he made sure the front door was closed and left. About 10 minutes total. A small victory.

It's hard enough to confront some guy with a gun breaking into a house!  I'd be surprised if you had thought of getting the name.

David

Write down everything you can remember of the event, description of the man, height, weight, hair color, ect.  Write down exactly what he did, the more the better.
I assume you are going to tell the neighbor what you saw.

I think you are wise to make this public, they like to wheel and deal in private and sometimes litigate for a reason.

It'd be even more public if I called the police station and tried to get an interview about it.  All I'd need is what police station it'd be, date, time, address of the incident.

He never made it in. Just being back from a bike ride with my kids the video camera was not at hand. After all of the Dave Ridley videos I've watched I should be ashamed.

;D ;D  As the ladies will sometimes say:  You go girl!

I would suggest that if something like that happens again either take the card or get his badge number and then let the home owner know that a thief was trying to break in to their domicile and give them the badge number or the card then say this is the information I could get from the thief and then maybe urge them to take that to the paper, a lawyer, or to the sheriff. If you could have got video that would seem to be great evidence for a lawsuit.

During the Liberty Forum Barry Cooper mentioned that police hate when the "subjects" (he said people) sue the police because the insurance provider for the cops will pressure the cops to shape up or they will cancel the policy.

kola

it was an attempted break in.

if it wasn't for you, he would have entered the home.

Just got back from the neighbor's house. Their eyebrows got pretty high up there when I told them the story. They gave me the guy's card.

Go for it. I stand behind every word I have written down to the jot except I forgot two lines:
----------------------------------------------
She knows I am coming

Then you can wait till she comes to the door

OK, I sent an email.  Should make an interesting addition to a story I'm working on.

If you need to mention me by first and last name you may, if the story calls for it.
