Real Money Poker Night
« on: July 09, 2008, 07:04 PM NHFT »

I'm hosting a "Real Money Poker Night" tomorrow (10-Jul) at my house/construction zone in Candia. We'll get started 7-ish.

I've noticed a problem when people talk in terms of real money. People seem to always convert it to current Federal reserve Note notation. I would like to continue the conversation about what to call fractions of a measurable unit of real money. For example, a quarter can be called a quarter ounce of silver, but what is a tenth of an ounce called? What about a hundredth?

Come to Real Money Poker Night and bring your real money. No FRNs accepted at the table. If you don't have any real money (silver preferred), I'm sure there will be people there who will exchange FRNs for silver rounds. I'll be the cashier and can convert silver rounds into casino chips for fractional betting if you'd like.

This is the first time I've done anything like this, so keep your expectations low. I just want to continue the dialog about real money, and what a better way to learn than if you have your real money on the line! Oh. and bring a folding chair if you want to sit! Smoke 'em if you've got em, and the beer's on me.

Use Google Maps via the link below. All other map programs put me about a half mile away.

Look for my red truck in the yard, along with four junkers "some guy promised to take". Maybe I'll use those as collateral for a good hand...

Brian.

I can probably participate if the stakes aren't too high. I'm still unemployed. I have some silver though.

Neat. Too bad it's too far away for me.  :(

Oh, you could call a tenth ounce a "tenny".

When I had some Mexican Libertads (1oz and fractional) I played with these names:
onza = ounce
media = half
cuarta = quarter
décima = tenth
vigésima = twentieth

Nope. I traded them for FRN's which I then traded for guns.

If anyone is interested, I have some spare silver coin I would be willing to spend on dollar-denominated notes issued by any Federal Reserve Bank.  Provided the seller is a porcupine, of course (I'll take some risk for a good cause).

Get in touch with me before then, since I don't plan on being at the game.

Adam

ps. is there really such thing as a 1/10 oz silver coin?

I have some old U.S. dimes that have about a tenth of an oz of silver in them.

I'm hoping to play some Poker during the Burning Porcupine Festival.  I'm thinking any kind of money to keep it less complicated.  Besides I like to play nickel, dime, quarter and my smallest silver coin is my limit per session ;D
